Proxmox help

Go to solution Solved by VXVaayu,

I'm back. Proxmox or ANY OTHER OS didn't work. apparently the NVIDIA gpu on it was completely bust and every os tried to ping it to display a gui, even non gui os(s). The laptop was apparently unsalvageable. So i've decided to recycle it after taking out the cpu, hdd, ram, wificard, etc. I've used all your advice on my new server(which is not up and running). Thank you for your help!

My laptop's gpu got fried after years of neglect. It's completely toast. Crashes instantly when displaying anything. But the rest of my laptop is pretty decent, so I decided to finally shift my minecraft server from free server hosting to dedicated hosting on my laptop. As there's no gui support (dead gpu and no igpu) I'm using proxmox terminal. I got to the stage of networking in the setup. None of the videos are providing with answers on what to actually do in this screen, they keep mentioning static ip, thing is, I don't know how to create one, can i create a static ip from a seperate pc connected to network? If anyone could list a beginner friendly guide to what exactly to configure and set in this screen,it would be much appreciated. I have no previous experience in hosting. Just trying to get my minecraft server going.

FInd a unused IP on your home network range? We don't know what that is. What is your routers lan range?

Find a unused IP on your home network range that isn't in the DHCP pool or used by other devices and you should be fine.

How to find an unused ip? When i use "ipconfig /all"

In cmd on my main pc, all the ips are for either virtual lan software(zeroteir) or hyperV, only the HyperV ip has disabled DHCP, do I use that?

Can you log into your router? That should give you more info?

What IP does your desktop have?

Well, friendo, you have two options. The easy one and the valuable one.
The easy one is to can the idea and move on.
The valuable one is learning how to do some basic networking things. Assign static IPs and do port forwarding.
The choice is yours, but we're here to help if you want to learn

If you only want a Minecraft server (and no other VMs), I would recommend skipping Proxmox and going right to a server OS like Ubuntu Server (or the like) and installing there.

FWIW (probably even more out-of-range, skill-wise), it's possible to run Proxmox with the IP handled by DHCP. You have to edit the /etc/network/interfaces file manually to change from static to DHCP, so you still either need a temporary static IP or direct terminal access.

Proxmox isnt good for this, just use ubuntu server since that will be much easier. Proxmox is good for virtualization since it has a easy web interface, though if you just want a minecraft server and no VM's go with ubutnu server, its also easier to get a connection.
