After upgrading my GPU it finally happened and I think 16GB aren't enough anymore, RAM usage is sitting at 98%  while playing Monster Hunter Wilds... and there are definitely some weird stutters that haven't been there before. (may or may not be RAM related)

So any suggestions for a good 2x16GB memory kit? I don't really want to mix different RAM kits, unless I'd find another 2x8GB "B-die" kit... (unlikely)

Specs:

  • CPU
    RYZEN 5800X3D
  • Motherboard
    MSI B550M MORTAR WIFI
  • RAM
    2x8GB GSKILL TRIDENT-Z 3200 @3600 16-16-16-36
  • GPU
    GIGABYTE 5070 AERO OC
  • Case
    TORRENT COMPACT
  • Storage

    SAMSUNG 980 NVME 1TB, 3x SAMSUNG EVO 870 SATA SSD 1TB

I'd stick with G.skill tbh since for the most part ddr4 doesnt flactuate much unless you go for extra looks

Ripjaws V I believe the specific line is called? That just has good heatsinks and a good performance

Or Corsair vengeance LPX cause they are also fairly good

The cheapest you can prob find that isnt terrible imo is G.skill aegis but these tend to be slower at 2400mhz 2666mhz 3200mhz while the rest usually are 3200mhz and or more

Otherwise we got Teamgroup vulcans and patriots viper elites

Personally I'd stick with Ripjaws V tho since all kits nowadays tend to be fairly close in price so the extra peace of mind g.skill gives wouldnt be bad

What if YOU were cake all along?

this peace of mind you speak of doesnt exist, they all use the same hynix micron and samsung so you are literally only buying the heatspreader for the most part with these generic bin xmps

but since we are talking a bdie kit here just have to find some used 3200c14/15 or 3600c14 or 16-16-16 and thatll give the exact same ic and guarantee compatibility assuming you arent pushing some high overclock which you probably arent given the garbage mem topology on msi b550m and the rubbish matisse/vermeer imc

maybe some old gskill flare kits or something like that but the heatspreader model doesnt matter

I guess I'll be ok just buying random trident z 3200 or 3600, right? I mean my ram never seems to get hot, ~40-50c max ... It won't be B-dies but generally I'm more concerned about stability than overclocking (really bad experience with Corsair vengeance, two different kits, always crashing, WHEA errors etc, none of that with my current gskills...)

It's just confusing because there are tons of different "trident z rgb" versions (with wildly different prices, but otherwise similar or identical specs)... And none of them seems to be B-dies haha.

Its 99% psychological with the 1% being brand reliability for defects ie they take care of their mistakes unlike for example Asus with their handheld with the whole GN situation

For 5800X3D it doesn't matter. I run 3200 jedec sticks and its nice. 1.2v and easy on the imc. Cooler and no difference what so ever. Of course if you care about a very small increase in fps get lower timing kit 🙂 But in all seriousness, anything over 3200@cl16 is not going to yield much on 5800X3D.

Well Gskill somehow wants 1.35v for Trident Z

But on MSI boards it always defaults to 1.36v with XMP to me... Even my small "overclock" I need 1.36, 1.35 does *not* boot into windows 😂

And yeah I know, it's just slightly better overall latency with lower timings, not *really* noticable I guess.

Edit: oh I didn't see you said JDEC... eh, yeah that would be an option too I guess.

So you're saying I should have bought the "dust magnet" ram...?

It's 60 bucks ... Only 10 less and only because of free shipping. >.<

Oh and it's slower too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
