what is this?

every tiime i boot up my pc thia pops up. i have no idea why. im am using a ethernet cable, this naver happend to me when i was on wifii but i have cange my mb and reinstalled windows fresh

Happens to me as well, but only once every now and then

 

I've just been too lazy to fix it

Make sure you have the latest version of MSI Afterburner installed. (RivaTuner is old freeware that basically got adopted by MSI and became Afterburner; sometimes the old name still pops up.)

 

There's no reason to reinstall Windows again for this. (People are way too eager to jump to the conclusion that you have to reinstall Windows.)

It's not necessarily an issue on your end. Could simply be their server being offline. Or the version you have installed is too old, and is no longer able to connect.

If RTSS checks for update before your network drivers initialize and you connect to the network, that might show up. 

 

Do you have RTSS installed for a reason?

Rtss typically gets installed automatically with Afterburner, it's what handles the overlay mostly...

 

I got this message a few times too recently, but not anymore, and I have the update stuff turned off anyway, but that still popped up, maybe rtss has its separate update settings?

Yeh, still on my 2017 windows 10 install, doing just fine (some things may be broken but turns out they're often broken on new installs too lol)

RTSS is a completely independent application and is only installed if you check the box during Afterburner's setup. It runs independently in your system tray with its own UI and settings. Is not required for Afterburner to function at all, only if you wish to make use of the OSD.
