GTX 670 vs 7970 or 7950 ?

So I am wondering what graphics card i should buy, I have an EVGA Gtx 660 FTW right now playing on a 1080p screen and i usually play bf3. And I want to play metro last light on higher settings then I do now and I also want be better prepared for battlefield 4. What card do you guys think I should get? I got three options
1. Gtx 670 2 gb ASUS Direct cu II

2. Radeon HD 7970 3gb Xfx black edition

I would go for the 7970, I don't see anything wrong with the XFX cards, go for their Black Edition 7970 as it seems to be cheaper than their Double Dissipation one.

I got the 7950 just because I couldn't justify spending the extra 100-150 dollars on the 7970, plays everything sweet as, and I don't see myself upgrading it anytime soon.

The 7950 has the best price to performance ratio. I would go with that or wait for the 700 series which should be coming out pretty soon

I wouldent say that as high end cards are never the best deal. Usually the sweet spot is in the middle range HD 7850/70 are a much better deal than the high end stuff.

Wait for the 700 series cards, see how they stack up with the current AMD cards, then make your decision. But if you're in a hurry, I would say 7950.

7970 unless you need PhysX or CUDA.  The 700 series cards supposedly launch on 5/23 so you could possibly get a renamed GTX 680 as a 770 if you wait until then...

I wouldn't bother the 770 is just a re-branded 680 with a 50$ price cut, the 7970 is still faster & has more RAM.

True, but there is the PhysX advantage with a 770 as well as 3D Vision.  Plus we really don't know yet what the clock speeds will be with the new 770 and the possibility of additional voltage has me excited to see what Nvidia is going to bring to the table.

Physx is not in enough games to warrant a meantion as a plus. There is no advantage to Physc only less framerate for minimal effects.

I dunno, PhysX is a nice perk if anything.  I agree its not enough to make me buy Nvidia exclusively but it has its uses (like in BL2)...

Batman, BL2, Metro .... which other newer games not much LOL. I hate BL2 not the game but that fact that it stutters because I don't have an nvidia GPU and the CPU Physx are crippled.

I always have problems with PhysX on my card, so I end up just disabling it, doesn't add much to the experience to be completely honest.

I'd rather have more performance.

The 770 is a 680 & I can't see the 680 gaining 30-40% more performance just by raising the clock speeds.

As for 3D that's sort of a niche market isn't it ? the nvidia 3d ready equipment is far too expensive & I find the experience to be less than satisfactory because gives me headaches & nausea.

But if it's your cup of tee then more power to you brother.

Of course it won't be 30-40% increase, that's ridiculous.  It may be 5-10% faster than a 680 and even that would likely need additional voltage...

I would recommend a 7970, it's as fast as a 680, a lot faster once you overclock it.
It also has a significant edge over the 680 in higher resolutions & multi monitor setups, so I'd definitely recommend it.
There are 3 models which I feel comfortable recommending, the HIS 7970 IceQ X2, the Sapphire Dual-X & the MSI Twinfrozr III.
The Gigabyte & XFX models are voltage locked so avoid them.

The 7970 also has more VRAM than the 670 (7950 3GB, 670 2GB) & a memory interface that's twice as wide (7970 384bit, 660ti 254bit) this profoundly affects performance with Anti Aliasing (the graphics setting which removes jagged edges) and gives the card an edge on higher resolutions (the higher you go the larger the performance gap).

Another reason why I'd recommend the 7970 is that you get 3 games for free bundled with the 7950, Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite & Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.

The 7970 is already 34% faster than the 680 once you over clock it, that's why I said 30-40%.

Because it would need to be at least 30-40% faster than it is now to compete with the 7970 & justify its price.

What are you talking about?  The 680 overclocks too you know?

Completely up to your level of expertise when it comes to tinkering and your budget! You got enough juice to run two cards in SLI? do it, some people complain of micro-stutter and random crashes in games, but it's becoming much less common now. I personally always suggest to go for the single better card, but that's just me. As I think MegaTech said earlier; SLI and CF does look good aesthetically :P
