Practice makes perfect, just fly around by yourself until you get good at it, then go into actual games. That's the only way to do it. Play around with your mouse sensitivity a bit if you're having trouble, maybe try a controller if you have one.

IDK if you've played battlefield before, but I was in the same situation as you. I'm probably worse than average pilot but I have improved greatly with a few tips (managed to unlock ECM jammer, apparently flares are better for jets though up to you). Keep in mind this was on BF3 but may help you (and only Jet tips, I suck at Heli)

To start off, I went into an empty server and practiced flying around doing simple turns from base to base. Then I moved on to flying towards stationary jets lining up the crosshair and trying to destroy them. (I done this for about 2-3 hours in total)

Then it's pretty much going into servers and getting in Jets and trying to take down any enemies which you think you can take on the the ground or having a go at taking out enemy aircraft. It's quite frustrating for many hours until you get a proper jet vs jet kill, so just keep at it!

You'll generally just get better by practicing as many other people have suggested - it can take hours to become an adequate pilot, and remember it's difficult to get to grips with and there's so many things you need to check such as optimal turning speed @ 313 (I think, and not sure if it's the same on BF4!) and making sure you can get on the tail of your opponent.

Watch some videos on shaking enemy jets, it's useful to know and use as a new pilot - I found the "scissor rolling" maneuver helped me greatly.

The MAIN thing is to keep your speed ~313 (probably 300-320 is fine for new pilots) and don't fly in straight lines if someone is after you! Try to match enemy speeds when chasing their tail and when shooting fire in short burst if you're far away and try clipping the wings/ nose when you're close.

I suggest operation firestorm for flying around because there are many tanks and usually are easy to find and there are lots of them going to a sort of central area. (Sometimes they come in line of three if you're lucky).

I'm probably not much help 'cos I'm still kinda new to Battlefield and play on PS3, however, good luck flying!

^ This is very good guide.

Few more tips. If you preefer mouse+kb combo for flying, lower sensitivity so that you don't swing around when aiming with machine gun. On choppers it could be little higher but those things are slow to turn anyway. If you want to practise them, try with Littlebirds first as they manover faster.

If you have controller, you can use it also. I would prefer one that allows adjusting sensitivity of analog sticks. Otherwise, like with mouse, you'll swing around when trying to aim.

Practise basics on Test Range first. When you think that you can fly, go to Air Superiority servers. You'll get fast XP there for unlocks. You can do two things there. One is go for kills, which is hard since everybody is doing that and you need to find, or steal, enemies with low HP. Other way to farm XP is to cap flags. Each full cap gives 250xp where each kill only gives 100xp disable, 50xp destroy and 100xp for kill. Same you think? No, since most pilots will jump before destruction or fly to ground.

On using countermeasures. This is bit tricky and need good reflex. When someone is locking you, you hear the locking sound first ticking and then continuous. If you have ECM you can use it at any point. With flares you need to wait for missiles first. Missile lock is more intensive. Launch flares when you hear it. This can be tricky when opponent is using active radar missiles which lock just before hitting. Flares have 17s reload time. Good thing to keep in mind when having chopper duel. Why? Because you never fire both missiles at once. Always one first and if opponent uses flares, you fire second when locking is possible again. Since lock stays on if they don't use countermeasures, you can fire second missile straight after first has hit. This if they haven't got countermeasures.

Hope these tricks help you.
