Headphone port stops working for NO REASON

I literally went afk for like 10 mins, came back and now my headphones don't work. I tried plugging them in multiple times, and since it's a port for both headphones and the built in microphone, windows asks 2 times in a row what I plugged in. If I select headphones and then mic in, it detects them, but there is no sound, if I do it in a different order it doesn't detect headphones at all. Restarting the PC didn't help. They do work perfectly fine though with a USB-C to 3.5mm adaptor

Is your plug a 3.5mm TRRS (4 contact points instead of 3)

Is this a laptop?

Since it Was working and now it isn't I'm going to assume it's a software issue, perhaps go into device manager and reinstall the drivers.

Audio go Brrrrrr

If you are using a 4-pole connector instead of 3-pole, this could be your problem.  I'm unaware of any onboard audio that accepts 4-pole properly.  Have you used the sound and mic at the same time with your current setup?  If you have a 4-pole I would recommend getting something like this TRRS to 2x TRS adapter.

Not sure if it's a 3 or 4 pole, but the headphones were like $20, so I doubt it's the 4 pole20250204_113857.jpg?ex=67a33ffa&is=67a1ee7a&hm=f0e7ed405afb77f6a87b381b031f9bcc56bb21231c4d2a315a5af64e567a3c31&

Is there a big difference between them? Also what do you mean doesn't accept properly? Like it works but the quality is bad?

you should get that splitter, your motherboard is designed to work properly with a 3.5mm trs for each the mic and the headphone.  It simply won't work the way it is with input and output

I mean it does work just fine now, I'm not using the port from the motherboard but from the case
