I haven't personally used Tumblr, but as for what I've heard it can be a horrible place. I really don't feel the need to join a site, that tell me that I am the scum of the earth for being a straight, white male.

Probably so. I do use facebook to talk to family that lives out of state, linkedin for business contacts, and twitter for updates from Linus and Slick but I don't use photo sites like that because I have no need, want, desire, or inclination to do so.

I haven't personally used Tumblr, but as for what I've heard it can be a horrible place. I really don't feel the need to join a site, that tell me that I am the scum of the earth for being a straight, white male.

Interesting you guys have that perspective of it.

 

That's like everything of course, those who don't know it will take up the assumptions presented by others. Not speaking negatively toward you all of course. I look at it as a place where people who find themselves struggling to hide certain parts of themselves for many reasons can be who they are and not have to worry about others judging them negatively for it. I've always portrayed myself as a less sensitive individual, if you ever met me in person you'd think I didn't have feelings because I'm always so carefree , stressfree , and happy. Inside I tare myself apart every second of every day, and once and a while it's nice to go on there a share a part of myself no one knows about with people who enjoy it. It's never seen to me as a negative place. You may wonder why I do this but, just one of the silly things I do in life.

 

I'd assume you're both right and that exists, but it's not very common.. Just like on facebook, or anything on the internet, what you see is what you expose yourself to based on the connections you develop. If you follow or talk to people like that, that's what you'll see. If you think it has nothing positive to contribute to your life I understand why you wouldn't use it. For me and I'd assume others it's a little bit of an outlet for emotion and humor.

You should probably mention there are NSFW pictures. Yes it is Tumblr, but still. Also, Tumblr has no appeal to me. No one I know personally even uses it.

Tumblr, as of my understanding, can be a pretty powerfull tool to get the information you want and to be selective about that information. While this is great if your interest is in media like music, movies, TV series' etc. it can also mean that you can cocoon yourself in misinformation. 

There is a reason why the term ´Tumblr social justice´ exist. Some of the people on Tumblr are so cocooned in this idea about privilege and victimehood, that they can't see anything else. This of course also goes for other social media like Facebook and Twitter, but the main place seems to be Tumblr. There are many theories as to why, but I haven't looked into all of them. 

 

If you like being on Tumblr,keep using it and be happy. It just isn't for me.

It's fine I enjoyed reading your perspective on it, that's why I started the thread. I don't really see that on tumblr, maybe it's because the people I follow and who follow me aren't idiots. Most of that is by ignorant masses like the people who post on facebook X Actor is dead on X date with a fake ad. I find it entertaining but I know it's completely false. People in general who just sit and accept concepts are one of the big issues in society in general not just on tumblr. I think it's something we can't fix with anything except a good education.

I find the majority of tumblr to be quite a toxic environment (mainly referring to the super aggressive feminists and the SJWs) unless you just like kinky porn and anime. Most of the fandoms are hordes of teenage girls with mush for brains. 

 

But there are still some nice people on there with interesting blogs so I have stuck around.

lol, I went through the process of culling the list of people I follow just to clean ip up a little. Think I have reached a good balance of stuff that makes me laugh/interests me with the occasional bit of smut thrown in now and then.

Tumblr is for ask blogs, pony ones tend to be popular. Imgur is for cats and other things random. Kinda like /b/ without the flood of tits and dicks on the front page.
