I'm going to assume at least some of you have had experience with Razer's headsets. I'm looking into getting a new headset. I'm currently using a set of Tritton Kunais, which are meant to be "universal", to work with my Xbox 360 and my PC. They work great on the 360, but not so much on PC. They pick up a LOT of background noise while using them on PC (my room gets relatively hot and I run a fan often), and on top of that, my friends are reporting static from games and other sources if I turn the volume up too loud while chatting. Not exactly ideal...

They're also supra aural, and I'm getting tired of having my ears smashed by headsets. I do more PC gaming now, so I've been wearing them for longer periods of time. I can only tolerate around 2 hours before I have to take a break.

I'm not looking for amazing "audiophile" sound. If I were, I'd be buying a pair of Sennheiser headphones or something and using an external mic. What I'm looking for is comfort (read circumaural), and a mic with acceptable quality.

I also need relatively cheap. Not super cheap (my first headset before these Trittons was like $40 and garbage, of course). So... sub $100 is my price range. Though I can pick up a Razer Kraken on amazon for $70, so that price point is a little more appealing to me.

Does anyone here have experience with either the Razer Kraken, or Carcharias? Though I'm more specifically asking for opinions on the Kraken, as I'll still end up using the Trittons for my Xbox. They work well there, so I'm not really interested in another "universal" headset.

I'm sure someone will come in here and tell me Razer sucks... and that's fine. If you do that, however, please suggest another headset in the price range that is circumaural, and has a good mic, thanks.

I have personally owned two sets of Razer headphones (and they'll be the last.)

Razer has  AWESOME keyboards, pretty nice mice, and pretty terrible (from my experience) headphones.

The current ones are the Razer Tiamat 7.1 Surround Sound Headphones.

The audio is nothing special, the visuals are stunning, and the build quality is the real issue.

For over $200 headphones, they're all plastic. The internals are plastic where they could (I opened them up to check), the externals are plastic, and they're just all around terrible.

The Mic has broken, and won't stay in the up position, so now I'm using a desk mic.

Razer Headphones are alright for audio, and awesome for aesthetics, but both of my Razer headphones have been cheaply made, and broke before their time was up.

My suggestion is to look elsewhere for headphones.

I have heard that the Kraken headset can be really uncomfortable for some people, but I don't have any personal experience, so take it fot what it is.

However I did at one point have a pair of Carchatias'. They sounded OK and the mic was acceptable. They are pretty comfortable, being that they are pretty lightweight and the ear muffs are pretty big. But they did die after 2 years of on and off use.

Have you tried looking at the Logitech G230 and G430 headsets. From what i have heard, they are pretty good for being headsets

I have the Kraken Pro (analogue version) and I can say that they are not entirely uncomfortable however you won't wanna wear them for long period of time as they have quite high clamping force, in my experience however I am unable to comment on sound quality as I don't really have anything to compare them against. I would suggest getting something else also as the microphone is kinda rubbish. You have to turn op the gain in windows a bit to get it audible to your friends which introduces a bit more noise

My son loves his Razer Kraken Pro's.  I also think they are comfortable compared to my other sets.  They do have a lot of bass tuned into them... which is why I think my son loves them, he plays a lot of Minecraft and the creepers exploding or enderman teleporting sound pretty cool.  The mic is clear enough if your not using it for like recording vocals... in skype/teamspeak situations (while gaming) they do the job well also.  These are definitely not like professional studio headphones... but for gaming, or bassy music, they are really cool.

Razer Kraken 7.1 isn't bad IMO. but it way far from being good.  My friend like them but we both admit to the quality of sound being overly bassy for anything outside of games and bass heavy music.

I'd recommend you check out Kingston HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset.  Rebrand of a Qpad QH-90.  Pretty decent Headset for the price.

I used to own the Razer Kraken and my ears were always red after wearing it. I like the padding on it.. its not bad but the fricking driver is a convex shape and will just press into your ears. I don't even have big ears. The G230 is good enough for my ears comfort wise but the cloth is somewhat painful.

Well from my experience Razer products work great until they break and the WILL break and from my experience within a week of warranty expiring.

P.S. Actually most Razer products work great, did not like my original Razer Blackwidow Ultimate. Finger print magnet and the optimized gaming matrix didn't work for all that well for my needs.

i have razer kraken pros (i'm wearing them now), and i wish i hadn't bought them, they have a pretty good mic, but that's it. this is my review of them: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/136837-razer-kraken-pro-review/?hl=razer+kraken+pro

my vote goes to refurbished sennheiser 558s or sony MDR7506

for a mic i recommend the zalman zm-mic1 or some other cheap mic with good reviews (sorry for no links, they were broken and i couldn't fix them)

That's because Razer is a peripheral company. Unfortunately, Razer has failed to grasp that headphones are not peripherals.

I would stay away from Razer, most of their stuff is overpriced. I would look at the Corsair Vengeance 1500's.

I had the Razer carcharias for a month. They are very comfortable (even compared to my HD 558s) and I had no issues with build or sound quality. Good if you can find for around 50$. But I think a pair of superlux with some sort of mic would have better audio; I doubt they would be as comfortable though.

well for the razer one I'd say grab the kraken one I have the green kraken headset and I bought it at the same time as my corsair vengeance 1300. so far my 1300 is already broke while the kraken are still going. although I neither use them a lot. mostly being used by my friends who comes over to play some games on my other rigs.
