Good day dear Hive mind,

I am currently assembling a Pi. The Pi itself already has a nice cooling solution I am happy with. Though my build also contains a NVME. Since I have some little heatsinks, originally intended for Pi's and its chips, laying around I was thinking about if I could stick those onto the NVME's chips. It will surely have not much impact since it will quite likely not have that high loads to actually need the heatsink. They will be probably much more for the looks.

Though I am concerned to stick them on there since the chips dont have a metallic surface but rather that black plastic. So I don't really know if there could actually be heat transfer between the chips, the heatsink and that weird sticky pads on the bottom of the heatsinks? Or could that even backfire and act rather insulating and trapping heat? Would there be any weird interaction between those sticky pads and the plastic of the chips which could ruin the chips by for instance making them very quickly extremely brittle?

For reference: Those are the kind of heatsinks I am talking about. They have some weird little sticky pads on the bottom.

Does anyone of you know or have some expierence? I would like not to ruin a perfectly fine NVME for nearly nothing.

Thank you in advance!

What NVMe drive? The Pi is fairly slow and likely won't be pushing the NVMe drive for extended periods, so your likely just fine without a heatsink here.

Yeah thats kinda what i thought. I am probably way overthinking

Yep a midrange PCie4 SSD won't get very hot, only faster 6GB/sec+ PCie4 and 5 really need it (and even then not on light loads)
