Ethernet not working

Go to solution Solved by Baked_potato,

After some more searching i stumbled across the fact that my router has 2 different types off LAN ports 2 with 1Gbit/s  and 2 with 100Mbit/s. Somehow always used the two ports with 100mb/s for testing. Well i switched ports and now it works like a charm...

Hi,

i recently build a new PC and now have the problem that I can't connect to the internet via LAN. WiFi is working without any problems.

Windows settings tell me that the LAN cable is not properly connected, even though I have checked it multiple times and it worked fine with my old PC.

Device Manager also says that my LAN controller is working fine. I have Updated the drivers using the download on the official website and using Armoury Crate. I also updated my BIOS and the LAN controller is activated in my BIOS settings. The LED's on my port only activate if my PC is turned off, as soon as i start my PC the LED's turn off.  The ASUS support told me to return my Motherboard which i did. After getting the new motherboard i have the same issue as before.

Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING B650-E WIFI

System: Windows 10

What happens if you turn off the WiFi? Does that enable LAN?

You could also try using the Device manager, go to Properties for that ethernet card and into the tab power saving functions. Uncheck the power saving features to see if that helps.

Just basic troubleshooting. Use a flashlight to check inside the RJ-45 port of the motherboard and see if all connectors are straight and not touching anything.

Also, try using another cable. It sometimes does wonders.

Good luck !

That's.... that's VERY weird.
Can you test the port on the switch with another device? And definitely try with a known good cable.

That's generally negotiation at 10/100Mb for WoL or other low energy but link up states

If it's coming up at a low speed that lends me to believe @manikyath has a good point and I would definitely start there.

I tested my cable with a laptop and it worked fine. Port on my board also seems fine.

LAN was already set to 1GB full duplex, also set it to 100 mbit/s but it didn't work either.

Booted linux mint live on a stick and in connections tab it only says that there is no cable connected.

Also had running Linux mint installed before i returned the first one, but same issue there.

The LED's seem to be lighting in bios as well until i boot, then they turn off. One off them is Orange and the other one is blinking green in random intervals.

In the event Viewer off my LAN Controller is one error

"Device PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8125&SUBSYS_87D71043&REV_05\01000000684CE00000 had a problem starting."

Hope this info helps

The only thing Windows and Linux have in common is the BIOS. You can try clearing the CMOS memory as a first step but flashing a BIOS is probably a better idea (and then clear the CMOS afterwards). You can try slightly older versions if the latest does not play nice with your Ethernet port.

Lastly, there may be a hardware fault with the Ethernet port. In that case, you can install a PCIe card or a USB dongle.

Good luck !
