I don't think there is a massive difference (except maybe the UI). I think Windows 8.1 runs some games better and Windows 7 runs some better.

I prefer Windows 7 but that is just me.

Windows 7 is better all the way, i don't know why people like W8.1 that much..

Actually, only way that windows 7 is better is the old interface. I don't get why people cling so much to things.

No, actually W7 is more stable and reliable than W8.1 as it is easy to use, what i disliked about W8.1 the first time i put my hands on it is the disappearance of essential menus and the metro UI template aswell, it is only for tablets and tactile monitors, it should be removed from the desktop usage! ;)

w7 is more stable? I have NEVER had 8.1 crash on me EVER. while i did have w7 crash.

Have been using Windows 8.1 for the past week and it's sort of a jarring transition from Windows 7. Gaming quality is about the same, but it might take some getting used to if you're making the switch. I'm used to it now, however, and I can do basically everything I did with W7.

This^ I've been using Windows 8.1 for months and have never had it crash. I've seen other OS' crashes but that was on my family's computer and they are not tech savvy (they had viruses among other things).

Try ClassicStart. It will basically make it Windows 7.5. I use it. I prefer it.

Metro is terrible for efficiency reasons imo.

No, you do get it. You just gave the reason in the first sentence.

People are completely familiar with the old interface. They are experienced with it, they like it's functionality. It just works!

Microsoft did a pretty good job of removing a bunch of functions that desktop users used, they replaced those functions with silly stuff like charms, crappy modern apps, and weird menu systems. It took them over a year to implement basic functionality like easily 'shutting down the PC' or booting straight to desktop, they still haven't brought back the start menu.

At the end of the day what's the first thing you do after installing Windows 8? You turn off charms, install a start menu, enable boot to desktop, ignore the 'start screen' and never look back.

Which pretty much says it all.

I haven't done any of those things and I'm hapily using windows 8.1

My god.

well. I only boot my computer once a day so boot to desktop is not a big deal, I only used start menu for search and I like the mouse to right side of the screen search on windows 8 so don't need that.
