If you have onboard sound that has all the connectors you need, I would not recommend to get a dedicated soundcard until you can spent over 100 bucks. The price/performace in this price segment is really bad.

If you want to get one anyway, what features does it need? Conenctors? PCI? PCIe? analog? digital? gaming? music? What kind of card do you want?

ASUS Xonar DG was better than any on board audio I've ever heard.... $30.

I agree with this, I love this sound card, big improvement over on board for sure! Just make sure you have a pair of headphones that can take advantage of what this card has to offer

The best bang for the buck imo is still the good old Asus Xonar Essence ST.

Also, anything in the Xonar series is decent as far as I know for tight budgets.

I use a Xonar DX. It's leaps and bounds ahead of onboard audio. After trying a friends i couldn't go back to onboard so i had to buy one. Basically like others have said anything in the Xonar range is going to destroy onboard audio.
