When i enable the XMP profile the CPU spikes to 100% as soon as I log into windows

Specs

3080

i9-10900K

Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Pro AX (Latest BIOS Firmware)

Corsair AIO H115i

Samsung 980 for boot SSD

Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2x16GB 3200Mhz

2 sets of RAM don't work with XMP, was previously working without issue.

Turning XMP off the CPU doesn’t spike but i’m then on a way lower mhz than the 3200… i’ve also formatted to windows 10 & then 11 but the same result.

Resetting CMOS doesn't solve this either

Any ideas guys? If it’s a broken CPU or MOBO what is a decent upgrade path?

As in its just at 100% utilization the whole time?

Check Task Manager and sort by CPU usage to see what's causing that. I'd then swap Power Plans in Windows to see if its just a scheduler issue.

ram speeds aren't as important as you think, for performance the deciding factor is that it's running in "dual channel" (not rank)

nothing is broken,  some cpus don't like specific ram, this is normal, just leave xmp off, you aren't losing anything,  on the contrary your system will be likely more responsive without xmp.

ps: for the 100% cpu, that's maybe another issue,  leave xmp off for now and observe how it behaves.

Thanks guys!

To answer everyone’s questions - XMP worked without issue for years

100% CPU Utilisation only occurs when i have XMP enabled and i start getting micro stutters in windows before i even launch anything. My USB devices also get weird and start disconnecting and re-connecting

As soon as i disable XMP instantly my PC is useable again on next boot

task manager literally does not show me whats using the entire CPU so i can only assume its not the OS causing the issues and mem controller is probs shot

tried diff power plans but same issue!
