DIY air condition, does it really work?

Get an actual air conditioner? That would work.

I mean, if you had a lot of DICE and stuff... Maybe.

They are huge as cars, draw energy as 2 gtx 590's and are overpriced, and the cheap ones simply don't work.

I don't want to spend a fortune on something I'm going to use for 2 months per year.

I cant see why it wouldn.t, however where are you gonna get a piece of ice like that? also what is it gonna cool in that space? if its a person and a gaming PC at load i dont htink this is a particularly good idea.

EDIT :

How hot is it where you live and how cold does your freezer go?

How big a piece of ice can your freezer make. How many hours a day does it have to keep it cool?

Also the amount of power it takes your fridge to cool your room(indirectly) should be simmilar to what an AC would cost to do it if not worse.

Cool project nontheless

Also needs a new profile picture..

I've seen brand new ones at Stop and Shop for 100 bucks. You could look for one on Craigslist too.

Would something similar to this solution work to cool down a 12-ish squaremeter big room?

Or does anyone know a better solution?

Other than a normal air conditioner, this should be the only thing you should consider.....http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0022MNFUG/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=419CPRZ90JL7&coliid=IT85V44DPBBZD. that cooler idea looks like trouble for motherboards.

The room is gonna get humid and sticky real fast. Plus it does not really take away the heat inside the room other than make you feel just a light cool breeze on your face or arms.

it does? atleast i think so to some extent, the hot air goes in, some of the energy goes towards heating the ice and melting it thus the air going out is cooler, would it make a significant impact? uhm.. no atleast i don't think so, but it is a fun idea, the power it would take for your freezer to freeze that ice in the first place would be hard to calculate i guess.

Yeah you're right with it cooling only to some extent. If the room is well ventilated (cross airflow etc2), then humidity shouldn't be that much of a problem. And I almost forgot the power needed for the freezer to make an ice block that big. And you will need a lot more than 1 block of ice to cool your room.
