How much cooling do I need?

Tswizzle23

I am brand new to PC gaming and I just took the first jump with my own custom build computer. I have the machine up and running, but I only have two case fans. Do I need more?

These are my current specs:

Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard

AMD FX-6300 CPU

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 3gb

32 GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance

Coolermaster Silent Pro M2 720w

Welcome to the forum and welcome to PC gaming! Glad to have you with us 🙂

If you temperatures are good then no, you dont need more.

You are running low power parts so one intake and one exhaust should be plenty 🙂

You can download MSI Afterburner to check your temperatures ( Dont need MSI components for it to work )

no, many case fans have 2 uses, quiet operation and aesthetics, as long as there's enough fresh air coming and hot air going, your case can have as little as 2 or 1 fan, and still be okay temp wise

PCs I used before:

Pentium G4500 | 4GB/8GB DDR4 2133Mhz | H110 | GTX 1050

Ryzen 3 1200 3,5Ghz / OC:4Ghz | 8GB DDR4 2133Mhz / 16GB 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1050

Yeah I use 3 fans with my 7700x and overclocked 4080.  2 intake ( stock case fans with the Graphite 760T ) and one noctua exhaust 🙂

I could do with one intake, my parts are running cool and quiet.

Should be fine with the stock cooler and some basic airflow into the chassis. Monitor your temperatures with something like hwinfo or speccy. Make sure it doesnt get too hot under load. It will shut itself down if it gets too hot so you dont need to worry about it being damaged by heat if something is wrong.

A 1060 isnt a super hot gpu, the FX 6300 isnt a super hot cpu, you could probably do this fine with 1 intake and 1 exhaust, or just two intakes.

As the others have stated, you don't have a hot PC, so you don't need more. I would suggest both fans on intake if you want less dust to clean out.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

So... you built your first gaming PC?

How much was it?

You want a good amount of intake and exhaust and good ventilation. Monitor your temps and see how hot it gets, that wiil let you know if your cooling is good enough.
