Modding servers

Random question, surely I’m not the only one who doesn’t really random mods to their servers, I needed to add a usb c / usb 3.0 card to an old dell poweredge r420, is was getting supplementary power to it, ended up soldering / wiring up a modified usb A cable for 5v and ground and piggyback long off a 12v wire going to the sas backplane. Anyone else so jank mods like this to their servers?

And a couple more incase anyone was wondering the context, I am passing through the pcie device for the usb c to a VM and having the hdmi and kvm, etc connect directly to it. So I can effectively have a seperate desktop machine physically on my server for use in my garage

Why the hdmi to vga to vga to dvi to dvi to vga to vga?

It’s hdmi to dvi to vga to kvm connector. I run an old school kvm. I’ve got a hdmi to vga on the way. The hdmi out is actually one those usb to hdmi devices, i forward the port to the vm so can access it directly from the kvm and the keyboard mouse, etc. effectively have a server with a pc embedded for things like managibg 3d printers etc, that I don’t wanna do directly on the server.
