The thing is we know exactly what to expect in terms of IPC. These new SKU's are no different than the current Haswell's minus the new TIM and factory clocks. So yes, in this case it is all about the gigglehurts.

TBH that's how they should have done it in the first place at least for K processors, if anything it would just make more people buy the K series rather than the regular versions, because currently there isn't really much reason other than for enthusiasts who just like overclocking and they're still using the process for their xeons/extreme processors anyway.

My guess is they'll just solder it like they used to do before ivy.

 

I doubt it if they're using the same manufacturing process. The reason they started using TIM is because they didn't have enough surface area on the chip for the solder to stick.
