Yes, the 7900X3D has less cache and therefore does perform worse.

This is a bit more tricky. Technically, they should perform identically to the 7800X3D. However, you can run into scheduler issues with the 7950X3D where it won't put the games on the right part of the CPU, therefore causing the chip to perform worse. It's somewhat rare, but not unheard of (see Starfield CPU benchmarks).

If you're just gaming, the 7800X3D is just better because you don't have to think about those potential performance issues that come with the dual CCD chips.

Is the 7800X3D actually faster than the 7900X3D or 7950X3D for gaming or is it just the best value?

Its actually faster.  The 7800X3D only has one CCD ( Where cores are ) and the other two have two CCD's due the amount of cores, the two CCD's have to communicate with eachother and this obviously causes some delay.

So for pure gaming, the 7800X3D is the fastest 🙂

7800x3D and 7950x3D are near identical and swing a few % points either way depending on the game. Effectively the same experience (in gaming).

7900x3D is the red headed step child and IMO is a pointless SKU that they made just because they can and uninformed people will pay for it. You're only getting 6-cores in each CCD.

For gaming, you'd pick 7950x3D over 7800x3D for two reasons and two reasons only.

  • You have a legitimate dual purpose gaming / workstation system that truly will benefit from 16 cores for non-gaming tasks.
  • You are a bigger number better person and don't care what it costs even if it makes no difference.
