Do stable frame times matter if I have G-Snyc on?

ManderleyBoy

Does making the frametime graph smooth change anything if I have g sync on?  Or is it still important for it to be consistent?

G-Sync (or adaptive sync generally) will remove the tearing (or stuttering with some monitors) that happens when your GPU can't keep up with your monitor's refresh rate.

Inconsistent frametimes will still feel like stuttering or hitching, it just won't result in screen tears on top of that if you have G-Sync on.

G-Sync will kind of compensate for some smaller frame times dips but big frame times jumps will still be easily perceivable as a stutter. Having consistent and low frame times is still better even with G-Sync or Free-Sync.

I've been playing with GSync displays since 2016 and I can say for certain that it isn't going to prevent frametime tips resulting in microstutter.

TBH capping your framerate is the most effective (in my experience) way to smooth things out unless them game just has a real issue with stutter at any framerate, not much you can do at that point if its a known game issue.

If your frametimes are bad, G-Sync won't fix that. It will just prevent image tearing when you have fluctuating fps under your monitor's refresh rate.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
