Hi,
I need some advice/info.

I bought a GALAX Sniper GTX 950 with a 6 pin power port

I want to use it on a Dell Optiplex 790 i5 (it will be temporary) problem is I am not sure if it will work and also not sure if it has a 6 pin on the power supply.
If the PSU don't have the required pin connector, will it still power the GPU enough to be used?

Note I just upgraded from a GT640 so realy want it to work

I do not think those PSU's come with a 6 pin PCIe power cable, so the card will not work, it needs the external power to run.

Don't. Don't touch the PSU's. It should stay as it is. Either out with the old one, in with the new one or sleep in the bed that's been made. Cowboying wires together is a recipe for everything to go up in flames.

Can you suggest a few CPU's that will work for even if only temporary?

Some cards do not need external power, such as some GTX 1650's. Keep in mind that they will not be very powerful.

The PCIe connector on your motherboard can supply up to 75w, so I imagine it will use all of it to get the best performance it can.

Just make sure it does not need a 6 pin power adapter!
