What sort of upgrade can I trade with this pc .?

I have this PC as my 4K HTPC , and wonder if I sell it and buy something else, how much and what kind of upgrade could I get

 

Specs

Case dell xps8000

I7 4790, oem cooler and mobo, , wifi n , 2x4gb ram, 128+32gb ssd

Msi gtx970 

Oem 460w psu or corsair rm650x

I would suggest upgrading the GPU and get more storage as well, whats your budget.

 

If you want to sell it and get something better you wouldn't get much off of it and if your on a low budget you can do an upgrade instead. You can get a GTX 1060 and 500gigs of extra storage, your CPU is still a champ RN even though some would disagree but still is.

That is quite old. 8GB of RAM and 160GB of total storage are tough sells for anyone, because they're going to have to go out and buy a new drive and more DDR3 immediately to make the PC viable for much of anything.

 

I can get a 970 off of eBay for $60 (holy shit). An i7-4790 is $30. I would actually deduct about $20 from the value because I'd have to go out and buy RAM, and another $40 because I'd have to go out and buy a 1TB SSD.

 

Bottom line, I'd probably offer you somewhere around $100 USD for this if I were in the market for it. You would probably get more from someone else if you leave it as-is, call it a "gaming PC" and let your buyer figure out that 8GB of RAM is woefully inadequate for most tasks in 2024, gaming or otherwise, and they can barely fit Rocket League and a few 2D side scrollers after they have Windows installed. $100 would put you in range of something like a mini PC with a Celeron N3350 or an Atom x5 in it. Neither one is anything I'd recommend. I also don't see enough value in the CPU and GPU for it to be worth upgrading the storage and RAM yourself. You won't get enough return on the added investment to be worthwhile.

 

tbqh, I'd just keep the system and continue using it as your HTPC. It's better than anything you could afford if you were to sell it.

Every well, get a GPU and slap it in. If maybe you want an amd gpu i.e Rx 580 or 570 you have to undervolt if you see any instability issues cause does GPUs requires 500w.

They actually runs at very low watts, even at 460W

And 570 is the same as my 970

 

The gpu is only for 4K 60hz output so even the gtx970 is overkill here

I don't know if getting a RX 580 is an upgrade to GTX 970, it's barely faster:

(4K 60hz doesn't sound little to me. I just lowered a game to 1440p because my system was overheating at around 4K 42fps.)

 

I'd add 2*8GB of Ram for around 30usd, if you have 2 free slots.

Edit : I kind of understand, you'd like the same but stronger. But at the same time I don't.
