7800x3d with dark rock 3?

Hey!
I am currently building a new PC with the 7800x3d cpu. Just wanted to make sure that the "be quiet! Shadow Rock 3" is a good fit with this cpu.
The cpu has a TDP of 120W and the cooler provides 190W TDP.

Cooler TDPs are not trustworthy stats. (tbh CPU TDPs arn't much help either given that modern CPUs are allowed to boost higher)

 

We usually recommend a Thermaltake Perrless Assassin or a Thermaltake Phantom Spirit for the 7800X3D due to its great price to performance ratio.

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Expand for common PC building advice, a short bio and a list of my components and other tech. I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. Please try to be clear and specific, you'll get a better answer. Please remember to mark solutions once you have the information you need.

 

Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

PCs are one of my hobbies and I've built many PCs and performed upgrades on a few laptops (for myself, friends and family). My personal computers include 3 windows (10/11) machines and a TrueNAS server (and I'm looking to move to dual booting Linux Mint on my main machine in future). If you already got the cooler, try it out. If it doesn't work great, try what @will0hlep suggested 🙂

hey. thanks for the response. I know the peerless assassin is a great cooler for the 7800x3d, but I can't buy him in my country that is why i asked about the dark rock 3 which seems to be available here.

Hey. The phantom spirit is actually available here so I might go with this cooler. I just don't know if the this cooler is going to leave any space for the ram. I am going with the B650M gaming X AX motherboard.

You can move the front fan up a mm or 2 to make room for the RAM, if aesthetically it blocks the RAM you can remove the front fan and it will still easily cool the 7800X3D or you can move the fans into a pull/pull config instead of a push/push like this; this is my Frost Commander 140, another cooler from thermalright, pretty much the same specs and size (a little bigger actually and the middle fan is in the wrong place, this pic was mid changeover)

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

FWIW I would rather buy Corsair than Thermaltake, and I really dislike them both 😄

 

From what I have seen, those old Dark Cocks do not do well with modern AMD CPUs.
