I don't know what the exact costs are, how much more is a 7600 based system vs the 5600?聽

The thing is you will be capping your potential performance choosing a 5600 now. 5800X3D will be the best gaming CPU you can use, and that is beaten by the 7600X. If you want more CPU for other things, I guess there is still the 5950X.

If you can go AM5 you leave the door open to more performance upgrades in future. If you're accepting you have a known limit to how far you can go with AM4, then at the right price, it is still a performant options.

I'm not quite sure I understand the question. AM4, the socket, no longer is current and has no more CPU's coming out for it.聽

The current generation socket is AM5.聽

AM5 has a future. AMD committed to releasing new processors on AM5 until at least next year, 2025.

AM4 has hit the end of the road, no more new CPUs will be released for it. A Ryzen 5800X3D is the best CPU AM4 will ever have.

On the Intel side, LGA1700 (from 12th/13th/14th gen) is end of life as well. Intel's 15th gen CPUs will come out on a new socket.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

What exactly is older CPU upgrade supposed to mean?

If you are already on AM4 and have a Zen 2 CPU, then you can certainly upgrade to Zen 3.

But if you already have Zen 3, then there is no upgrade path. No newer CPUs are available or incoming for that platform.

So if you're buying a new system, AM4 means there are no more updates coming unless you purposely buy and even older CPU.

Zen 4 requires AM5 and so will Zen 5. So for a new system it makes a lot more sense to buy AM5 and have the option to upgrade to a Zen 5 and maybe even Zen 6 CPU down the line.

I have question, people say to go AM5 because it will be able to support newer cps so when you want to upgrade you can upgrade to a newer cpu but why not go AM4 and just get a older cpu upgrade instead?

Thank you馃檪

Valid question.聽 Depends how far back you are, really.

If you're using AM4 now, upgrading to a newer AM4 CPU is fine.聽 if you're buying new, go AM5 as when you need to upgrade you'll have current CPUs to choose from.聽 If you go AM4 now and upgrade later, you won't have modern choices.

Really just depends how tight the budget is and how far back you buy.聽聽

I guess it's only fair to say it's a matter of what you want, whether it's about having the newest (Bleeding edge) or just something that's not too expensive, yet will still get the job done for a few years minimum.

In my case I have what I'd need for some time to come and it's fine but my needs aren't the same as yours because my use for a system isn't the same as yours....
In fact no one's "Needs" are quite the same as another so that's a big factor to keep in mind when asking for, or even giving advice.聽

I'll elaborate further about mine and what I could setup - I have a MSI X570 MEG ACE board, plus an R9 3950x chip along with some G. Skill Trident sticks (8x4 GB sticks/B-Die) that's still good enough for about anything I'll (As in me personally) will ever be doing for years to come in my case.

For gaming (If I were a gamer) I'd still need a strong GPU and although I have a couple here that could do it, these aren't the best I could have either. It's all based on a budget for such and we all know GPU prices these days are insane to say the least of it, that component alone costing more than what the rest of a doable system would probrably cost if going for a high end GPU.
Definitely as much, if not more than what I gave for all three pieces I listed above when I got them, the CPU itself was used (Lightly used at that) so it was cheap(er) for a R9 chip, the board and sticks were new when purchased.

I'll sum it up here:
It's a simple matter of what you want, what you want it for, how long you want it to last for your particular use and your budget - Budget being the biggest factor of all because ain't none of it free and the cost is coming from your own pocket (That I know of) and no one else's.
