Smart Home application to associate multiple different smart devices

Hey guys,

long time ago in terms of videos of LTT I watched Linus creating (well, Jake was the one who did that) his own server with some kind of smart home app that was able to receive input from basicaly any smart home hub/appand then provide input to different smart hub/app. I spent hours trying to find this app, I belive it took place in Linuses old house.

Basically what I am looking for if anyone can tell me if that is possible or not.

I have bunch of smart items in my home but using multiple apps to controll those. I have xiaomi where I am forces to use Xiaomi home, I have LG, I have Hue lights etc. Now I am moving houses and I plan to do this right. I belive there is a software I can install that will be able to set communication betweek theese devices. Yes everything new will be Matter enabled but I need to make the old stuff work.

I preffer something I can install on either some kind of small server, tiny desktop, synology etc.

Thanks

Home assistant is what you want. Itll run on anything, and they even sell little raspberry pi like devices directly from home assistant: https://www.home-assistant.io/yellow/

Or yuo can run it on a pi of your own, or as a VM, or bare metal.

If you have a TrueNAS machine, there’s also a home assistant app that you can install
