Upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 with fresh install

xbios

Maybe I think too complicated about this. But I'm in the following situation: I have a Win 10 pc that I would like to completely wipe and start from 0 but also would like to upgrade directly to Windows 11.

Because this is a very old license I got back with Win 7, then upgraded to 10 I don't have the key anymore I suppose.

What would be the best way to do this, without buying a new license? I don't want to use any windows "reset" tools, because I really want to kill everything from that drive and install everything completely fresh.

Do I have to upgrade to Win 11 first to "upgrade" the license? Or will my Win 10 license just work when installing the Win 11 ISO?

Thanks!

If you just want to know the key, then use this - https://github.com/Superfly-Inc/ShowKeyPlus/releases/tag/ShowKeyPlus1.1.18.0

But I'm not sure if Windows 11 allows using Windows 7 key anymore on clean install. I remember some news about Microsoft disallowing it, but perhaps someone else knows better.

I edit my posts more often than not

If you tied your Microsoft account to the Windows install on Windows 10, in theory, it should just work when you sign in on the fresh Windows 11 install later on. I would definitely try to get the key using a tool like @Tan3l6 provided though just as a backup.

Hi buddy,

Assuming your current Windows Activation is tied to a digital license, then you should be able to pop the Win 11 USB stick into your PC, boot from the USB, select install then crack on without a key. As soon as you log into Windows with your existing credentials, Windows should activate as normal.

You can check how your existing Windows installation is activated by going to Settings > System > Activation
