Building new PC - CPU Cooler won't fit onto CPU

Brennan131

So I'm building my new PC. Installed the motherboard into the case. Installed the CPU and RAM into the motherboard. I believe I successfully installed the radiator and fans to the top of the case. Now I'm trying to connect the cooler to the CPU.

I'm following a guide online. They told me to remove the default LGA mount and to put the AMD mount onto the heatsink instead (or whatever it's called for liquid cooling). I did that, then I applied thermal paste.

I tried to put it on, but it wouldn't really fit. There's two clips, and I can get one on, but if I try to get the second one on, I meet resistance. The CPU might be in the way. I'm afraid to apply any more pressure, I feel like I put too much pressure already.

Mobo: GIGABYTE Gaming X AX V2

Video Card: RTX 4070 TI Super

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2GHz 8-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Lian Li GA II Trinity 360

RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5 32GB

Storage: Platinum P41 SSD PCIe NVMe M.2

Case: Lian Li Lancool III

The guide I'm following

And yes the thermal paste got messed up when I was trying to install it.

I hate this mounting mechanism, i 100% prefer the 4 screw method over this. Its pretty much getting the first one started then looping the other side in and wiggling it to get both to fit. Takes a lot of wiggling.

this mounting style DOES take a scary amount of force.

sorry this is not the mounting style i was thinking about, looks like the two clips should fit over the hooks pretty easily
