GPU for HTPC

Go to solution Solved by qwertywarrior,

Is something like Nvidia GT 610 with 1GB vram gonna work? I'm kinda worried because the monitor has 2k res and GT610 only has 1GB of vram.

I am using pcpartpicker au, and the cheapest I can find is the GT210, followed by the GT610. Both are Gigabyte cards.

the 610 is a rebranded 520 which is good because it supports nvidia pure video 5

go for it

VP5 has significantly improved performance when decoding H.264, It is also capable of decoding 4K resolution videos at 3840 × 2160 pixels,

I am gonna build an HTPC based on my old E7400, and I have a question about the GPU.

What is the best value GPU that I can pair with my E7400 that is adequate for watching movies on a 2k monitor and not gonna be bottlenecked by my CPU?

I'm not gonna be playing any games on it, just watching movies. I also need at least one DVI port and one HDMI port on the back of the GPU. I already have all the other parts for the HTPC (mostly from my old rig), so the only thing left is the GPU.

Anything can handle that honestly

Case: Meatbag, humanoid - APU: Human Brain version 1.53 (stock clock) - Storage: 100TB SND (Squishy Neuron Drive) - PSU: a combined 500W of Mitochondrial cells - Optical Drives: 2 Oculi, with corrective lenses.

Just get something like a 210 or something with the correct ports on you really dont need anything with power

The GT 610 is pretty decent GPU for the money for a HTPC. If one ever decided that they wanted to play games a decent upgrade would be the GTX 750 or GTX 750 Ti. ;)

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.
