2080Ti issue!! Help!!

AtomicBeam

First off, I'm new here! thank you all for your help! I am posting my Pc build right here to start up:

Motherboard: Asus X99-A II

CPU: Intel 6800k

RAM: 64gb Corsair vengeance (irrelevant I guess)

GPU: 2080Ti founder edition

PSU: 850w corsair

If I missed something tell me. I switched gpu for a 2080ti and it works, but when I start ANY game or the unigine benchmark at any resolution the GPU starts ramping up the fan at 100000% and the temperature is 88-90 degree with hotspot of 100degree?  and it becomes quickly unplayable with FPS dropping to near 10... even at 720p or 1080p... It is a used GPU and I have no idea what the person before did to the Card.

I used GPUZ, After Burner, EVGA Precision x1, geforce experience, drivers are up to date, bios is up to date blablabla looked up the specs of the card and all the specs seems to match up on screen using the software. I have NO Idea whats the issue. The GPU utilisation is about 10-20%. anyone know what could be the issue, or is it just some bottlenecking issue? I can provide pictures of anything required to troubleshoot.

I think the GPU is shot, maybe someone tried to overclocked it and killed it?

Thank you all.

Kinda just sounds like you need to take it apart and put some decent thermal paste on it.

you think that could be as dumb as that? xD I can definitely do that lol

Or am I being CPU bottlenecked? no idea how to determine if im bottlenecking or not.

Your GPU is 10000000% overheating. Bad thermal paste, bad cooler contact or both could be the issue.

I would be incredibly surprised if it were anything other than bad/no thermal paste.

Thank you! I will dismantle it and reapply some paste and pads! I'll post back soon when it's done to update on the issue!

Definitely agree with @flibberdipper. Given the age too that the RTX 2080 Ti came out too, most likely the thermal paste has long gone dry.

Is there any indication that it has been opened before? Is the tamper sticker still on the screw?

But I agree with the others. time for a repaste.

Are you DAISY CHAINING the Power Connectors?

IE 2x8Pins together chained to the same cable??? or 2x SEPERATE 8Pin cables used?

Daisy Chaining 2x8pins in a single cable can cause these issues and using 2 seperate 8pin cables for EACH 8pin on the GPU can mitigate these issues if encountered.

As I encountered this on my 2080Ti with 2x8pins on a single cable, moved to 2x8pins in independant cables and its working factory spec as normal.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Im using two different power supply connector to fit the card.

Then it may just be a thermal paste issue.. if I remember right, the 2080Ti founders sat around 72-75*c when in good condition in a 21*c room, it's not unfeasible they can get to the temps you are seeing, especially if you are in a warmer climate also.

Any particular paste I need to use? Do I need to apply new thermal pads too???

Any paste non conductive paste is fine. And the pads only need to be replaced if you destroy them when taking the cooler off. Pads last a long time.

I dismantled the gpu and extracted the PCB. First off it's missing some screws and the thermal pads are damaged... The important screws missing are the hexagonal ones, linking the cooler and the PCB for optimal contact and four big spring loaded screw around the GPU itself. Heat transfer is decificient due to missing screws and some missing thermal pads, the thermal paste is brand new but more than half of the GPU isnt covered... The person who took it apart ruined the cooling system and thats why its overheating. (wasnt me xD)

I need to order some screws specifically for for the RTX 2080ti founder edition and I might as well order some thermal pads, but how do I make sure i'm ordering the right screws?? anyone knows, Any special website??

Thank you all for your help!!!
