Watch OS 10 is Apple greediness at its finest

I recently bought my mom for her birthday an Apple Watch SE Gen 2 that she's been asking for a long time when I gave it to her and started the set up I found out that my mom's iPhone 8 plus which runs ios 16.2 CAN'T PAIR WITH THE DARN WATCH!!!!!!!! It turns out that Apple decided that you need the IOS 17 you like it or not to use the watch and even though watch OS 9 worked perfectly with iOS 16 this new update doesn't.

 

And I know is my fault for not checking the compatibility versions so this didn't happen the thing is that this is not user-friendly at all, many people who don't understand technology and compatibility stuff will see this thing on Amazon and think that they can just buy it and use it daily and believe it or not there is a lot of ios 16 iPhone users out there, and the worst part is that most of us don't live in countries where apple stores are a thing.

Regardless of the version of iOS or watchOS whatever device is running, no matter how you split it the iPhone 8 will be 7 years old this year. That is an absolute eternity in technology time, and realistically it's due for a replacement at this point even if it does do whatever she wants just fine. insert smartass comment about consumerism here

The problem is your mom has an iPhone 8. This year is the last year that doing that is viable. Pro tip, if the phone does not support 5G, its too old.

4G low-band 700Mhz isn't much different than 5G 600 Mhz, and judging by the higher frequency, probably safer.  4G is still around and the long range frequencies are not at all different enough to warrant a replacement, so 4G frequencies are still going to be in use for quite some time.  My phone is also still in use at now seven years, and performs better than new devices, because android is going down the drain.  VLC can't even access sd card folders like older android can, so it's just a lesser version, not an improvement.  On new android versions, the android system itself takes 1GB of memory and it's only getting worse.  The tablet I'm on, that leave 400 MB.  It's all un an effort, which is succeeding, to force people to constantly upgrade.  And people GLADLY go along with it and it just keeps going.  So you get a new device with new, heavier software for a worse experience.

 

iOS is too restrictive, and android's software quality just can't match Apple.  It will be nice when some operating system designer can create a better system, like WebOS, which is much lighter than android, with a single 1 GHz cpu thread and 256 MB of memory.
