A little while ago i installed 3x Noctua S12a and 1x Noctua NF-A14, they are basicly silent compared to my old standard coolers that came with the CM Trooper case, wich is great, but i have since then started noticing a slight "humming" sound, kinda hard to explain, not sure if its even a humming sound, i suffer from slight tinitus and notice some sounds more then others.

Trying to troubleshoot where it might come from and i was wondering, is it a bad idea to disconnect fans while the pc is turned on? its hard trying to figure out where is comes from when having to reboot everytime.

It might just be due to the placement of the pc in my apartment, but would still be nice to maybe figure out where it comes from :)

Its fine to unplug your fans as long as you dont touch the motherboard :) just the connector

Also make sure its not some side panel rattling.

Check the fans one by one to see if it is one that is making the noise. Some fan bearings are made to run either horizontally or vertically only, so it might be that the fan bearing has been damaged from being in the wrong position.

Yeah thought about a panel maybe being loose, but its not that, there is 0 case movement with the new fan setup, dont think its the new fans either, but yeah gonna check them out one by one to be sure.

The sound seems to come from the NH-D14 that i have, tried disabling all the new fans i installed one by one and its 100% none of them, noticed that the NH-d14 fans are pretty much running full speed all the time, never noticed that before since the case fans probably overpowered them, with my MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming board there seems to be no  way to control the speeds, both the fans on the NH-d14 are connected to the cpufan 1 and 2 headers, afaik the D14 fans are not pwm controlled and sadly doesnt seem to be a way to control the voltage from bios on this board :(
