7950x a good upgrade for a Blender/Gaming machine?

In addition, AMD has committed to supporting the AM5 platform for some years, and considering the support that AM4 got, I'm inclined to believe them.

I wouldn't buy AM5 now with this expectation. Even if they release CPUs for AM5 in the future, it doesn't mean they'll work with existing X670e fully featured.

I would honestly stick to the 12900k and look at Intel 15th or Ryzen 8000. Unless there's a specific use case limitation you're running into, the 12900k is still a very capable gaming/productivity CPU in 2024, even at the extreme end.

I currently have an I9 12900KS in my machine right now, which I use mainly use for gaming. But I'm planning to get into some Blender work/3d modeling and rendering, etc.

I'm planning on upgrading my CPU, and I'm trying to see which CPU would be a good upgrade.

I'm planning to go on AM5, and I'm looking at either 7950X for work, or maybe the 7950X3D for a gaming boost on some off time.

I'm torn on which one to go for.

Any advice?

Why not the 13900K? Same platform, nice upgrade.

I have looked into sticking with Intel, however the lga1700 platform seems to stop at the 14900k.

Even then, the reviews I've seen so far of the 14900k have it pretty much the same performance as the 13900k.

In addition, AMD has committed to supporting the AM5 platform for some years, and considering the support that AM4 got, I'm inclined to believe them. So, if I am going to upgrade I'm inclined to go with AMD's AM5 platform rather than Intel because of AM5's potential support beyond Ryzen 7000. At least for now.

You wont see any gain for blender and 3d modeling etc that would make it any where close to being worth it. Stick with what you have, wait another 3-4 years and see what happens.
