WAN Show: Who voted for well received EU-"laws"?

Mensatisch42

So after @LinusTech came up with the question who is driving the changes, I got curious who voted for these "laws":

A small side note:
The german parliament (Bundestag) has a nice overview on their website that shows how the MPs/Parties voted.

I expected to find something similar for the EU Parliament, but I couldn't find anything. (Maybe it's somewhere on their page and I just missed it?)

But after a bit of looking around, I found howtheyvote.eu.

And the majorities for these "laws" are quite surprising:

Digital Markets Act: 91% voted for this regulation (https://howtheyvote.eu/votes/8017)

Digital Services Act: 87% (https://howtheyvote.eu/votes/8016)

Radio Equipment Directive (the "law" that enforces USB C on phones): 97% (https://howtheyvote.eu/votes/8765)

One last note: The Parliament is not the only part of the legislative process and the Commission (more or less the government) and the Council of the European Union (representation of the member states) are responsible as well.

Do they sneak unrelated stuff in like they do in America? Or is it purely what it says on the tin?

Read for yourself, it is surprisingly short: https://oeil.secure.europarl.europa.eu/oeil/popups/summary.do?id=1710475&t=e&l=en

Nevermind, here is the proper text: https://www.eu-digital-markets-act.com/Digital_Markets_Act_Articles.html

Or this one:

So I've never heard that something is sneaked in. So maybe they are very sneaky or it's not really a thing.

On the EU parliament rarely as they are actually members of a party mostly towing the party lines.

With the Commission level it is more every member wanting to get something for their constituents similar as in the US congress or UK parliament.

Now for sure you get lobbyist ghostwriting laws, but rarely as obvious as with earmarking in the US.

The Commission is nothing like the US congress. To begin with, they don't even have a "constituency", since they aren't even elected. It's more of a retirement plan for politicians from around the EU, as long as they have shown enough submission to the European establishment during their tenure at their respective national institutions.

Comission members is elected by members of the other EU bodies, who has members that is elected by people in EU countries in different ways, some directly and others indirectly.

That is indeed the letter of the law.

Also, it doesn't change that it is in fact a zero-accountability position, and there is no catering to a "constituency" à la US congress.
