Question about a cheap diy nas to store data for home use

So I am looking into trying to do a cheap diy nas/maybe router setup for storing files in my home, what would be my best setup options

Budget is somewhere around 100

What would your budget be?

In what country are you residing?

The cheapest way to get into it would be to buy a second-hand Dell PC, get some new drives, and shove them there with TrueNas.

On eBay, theres an endless amount of used dell poweredge servers.

Qoute my reply if you want me to answer back.

You could build your own hardware and put UnRaid or FreeNAS on it, or go with a pre-made solution from Synology or QNAP.

That said, I don't see a question here... Perhaps you forgot to finish writing your post? If so, you can edit it with relevant details.

Desktop: KiRaShi-Intel-2022 (i5-12600K, RTX2060) Mobile: OnePlus 5T | Koodo - 75GB Data + Data Rollover for $45/month
Laptop: Dell XPS 15 9560 (the real 15" MacBook Pro that Apple didn't make) Tablet: iPad Mini 5 | Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 10.1
Camera: Canon M6 Mark II | Canon Rebel T1i (500D) | Canon SX280 | Panasonic TS20D Music: Spotify Premium (CIRCA '08)

Does that budget include your storage drives?

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Budget is not realistic unless your NAS is low spec used hardware with mayyyybe a simple mirrored array.  If that's your whole budget, might want to just buy a decent ssd/m.2 usb drive.

But I'm just talking out my ass.

Not really going to be able to build a nas diy style with that budget.

If your router has a USB port that can function that way, plugging in an external drive to that will be your best bet.

Either they or get a used raspberry pi and share an external drive with that.

I don't think you can buy Fujitsu in the US. Next best option is likely an HP EliteDesk or ProDesk.

Dell Optiplex SFF are often short on SATA ports or HDD mounts.

If you push the budget to $150 you could get a good solution:

$50: used PC

$50: 1TB SSD for general data storage

$50: 2TB HDD to backup the SSD and PC-backups.

People never go out of business.
