Does repeated unplugging and plugging cause damage

My power cord (extension box) dont have individual switch so i have to unplug my monitor and pc cables once i shutdown them since my router is plugged to the same power strip does doing this over a long period of time cause damage.

Why do you have to unplug and replug them? Just leave them in?

 

As for wear and tear? Yeah sure eventually after years but those are easily replaceable standard cheap cables. But I'd say your power strip will fail sooner.

no it won't really cause any damage. But I'm with jaslion, why unplug them anyway? are you having odd behavior on them when they're powered down but still plugged in?

 

on the subject though; if you do need/want to unplug like you do then you could add a smart plug to each cord, that way you have the button on the side.

 

I know you're not US, but this is what I mean and I know there are equivalents for your region. Don't even have to setup the smart functionality. can just make use of the physical button on it.

Get another power strip, plug it into that main one... flip the switch instead of unplugging.

 

Though why you're unplugging is probably based on a misunderstanding of how electronics work, but may be not wanting to use even the tiny bit of sleep/hybernate power when you turn something off?

Like i cant turn off the power so leaving the plug will supply current to the pc 24/7 because i need wifi all the time i csnt turn off the power strip like turningot off would just turn off my whole and wouldn't it be dangerous to keep the pc plugged to a active live power source all the time ??

You do realize that EVERYTHING else in your house is attached to an active power source when it's off, right?  Lights, lamps, stove, TV's, radios, etc etc etc.

 

There is no danger unless you get lightning strikes in your yard or other catastrophic stuff.

No like what i mean is there are switches for the tv and other stuff that can be turned off so there is no flow of current but there are not switches in the power strip

Okay, only helps if the PC is the only think plugged into that outlet though.   Grab another surge protector strip with a switch if you must hard power off your PC.

 

Is your power delivery that bad where you are that disconnecting items from it is normal?

I couldn't comprehend what you mean in the last line. But like what i mean is a shutdown pc is not a turned off oc like the circuit is not open its closed so wouldn't there be a current flow

That's what I am asking.

Most of us just turn off an item, we don't close the circuit.

 

Do you always close circuits in your country?  Why?  Do items take damage overnight or something?

OMG turning off something means to open the circuit that means no current will flow through since the switch is off ( circuit is open)

IMHO, Just buy a power strip with individual switches. Really.

Less troublesome at the very least, and probably less strain on the plug & strip pins

 

I think I saw one in Amazon india (if that's where you are, I am assuming from the looks of the power plug) that comes with a fuse in it.

around 400-500 ₹ iirc.
