Is this psu good enough for my pc?

Hey everyone.. i asked a question week ago for my current cooler master 850w psu that is it good enough for my build?.. i am using that supply for quite a while and people said that it is a really old supply i shouldn't use it anymore.. that got me scared.. but since i just bought a 3080ti i can't buy a new supply right now because of my financial issues.. my friend has a seasonic 1050w psu and he is giving me that for very cheap and I don't have to pay him immediately. So i am attaching the picture of both psu .. my current cooler master and my friend seasonic psu.. please suggest me if i should switch to my friends psu.

Seasonic PSU will be great.

 

Just make sure to only use cables included with the seasonic PSU. If you use cables from your old PSU, with your new PSU you will probably kill your hardware.

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Expand for common PC building advice, a short bio and a list of my components and other tech. I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. Please try to be clear and specific, you'll get a better answer. Please remember to mark solutions once you have the information you need.

 

Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

I'm a PhD student working in the fields of reinforcement learning and traffic control. PCs are one of my hobbies and I've built many PCs and performed upgrades on a few laptops (for myself, friends and family). definitely do, your current one only has 768W on the 12v rail (but it's supposed to be an 850w psu) but your friend's has 1044w on the 12v rail and the seasonic is an A tier unit whereas the cooler master is supposedly a C tier so the seasonic should handle the spikes of the 3080 ti better

Definitely the Seasonic one 🙂  As mentioned, replace ALL the cables that came with your Cooler Master PSU. Dont reuse any old PSU cables, its very likely that will completely destroy your PC

Well my old psu isn't modular.. so that won't be a worry.. but one thing that i didn't mention that my friend said he lost the cables way back but then he buy the compatible cables and those were working for quite some time.. he didn't have any issues with those.. so would it matter if the psu doesn't have the original cables but the compatible ones?

As i said my cooler master psu isn't modular so i will use the cables that my friend will give me with the psu.. he was using those cables for quite a while he didn't have any issues although those aren't the cables that came with the psu he lost them.. but the cables he currently have are compstible

And by anychance does snyone know how old the seasonic psu is roughly? I don't know which year it came out

The Cooler Master is 17 years old I told you earlier.

 

The Seasonic PSU is almost 12 years old (built 2012, week 1 (1201, the first 4 digits of the S/N)) and X-Series has issues with recent high end GPUs because it measures to much noise on the sense wire and shuts down.

Well i don't know now.. i am using my 3080ti right now undervolted to 815mv.. some are recommending the seasonic

My biggest worry with such old PSUs would be if they have the right cables for your build. They are good brands and will probably still serve up 850w reliably, however I would be considering changing for a modern 850w PSU so that I had a modern set of cables.

Well the cables of that seasonic is compatible.. my friend was using a pretty high end build with that psu.. also i have a friend in my local market that makes gpu cables..

Why are you buying a 10 years old PSU? Or rather why is your friend selling it to you, does he hate you?
