Cardboard wind chute/tunnel - Edit: Final Prototype Complete.

i have finished the Jank as hell A/C cooling setup. the 3m tape is the main VIP here haha. I am now getting a solid sub 30 degrees idle. Sub 40 degrees using web browsers and general applications of varying types. It is quite typical for me to get a spike to 45-50-60 when opening any app, which will then drop down to somewhere around 40-50 degrees depending on the app. Getting sub 60 degrees gaming on average. Games such as God of War and others like it ie: Graphically intensive games flirt with the 60-degree mark. I think I've smashed this one out of the park. Pushed it as far as i can go without going to complete bonkers extremes. My masterpiece is complete!Capture2.thumb.PNG.12e5fafbfdfbd5721d17e9062bc9a741.PNGCapture3.thumb.PNG.d370f7ca5885ce6ef0d93e15ecd8c6c7.PNG

Your R23 temps are still about 10c warmer than what I am used to when I am using an air cooler.

i've never had temps sub 70 degrees ever with r23 unless deliberately undervolting/limiting voltage to the point of severely affecting the result/score or messing with ram timings and the BCLK. i've got pretty much everything on auto now. I can't be arsed to fiddle with r23. It's not a realistic workload for anything i do. Just a toy to increase wank factor lol. The 5800X3D performs phenomenally with gaming with no issues and very low temps here. Which is exactly what it was made to do.

I was never able to get a decent score at 1.1v let alone get to 1933.33mhz. Was not able to get my memory over 3733mhz reliably. Unless I increased the BCLK. I could only get up to 102.93 BCLK and be able to boot consistently. Anything above that, i had to keep it on sleep mode if i ever did get it to boot. Otherwise getting it to boot was random luck. I'd say a big reason as to why your temps are at 64 degrees is because of the 1.1v (not the air cooler you have) and your score being so high is because your memory is at 1933.33mhz. I was able to squeeze my cinebench r23 score one time only to just over 15200 by like 2 or 3 points by mucking with my bios settings for hours, stupidly tedious & absolutely hated it. So now i just have everything auto. apart from ram which is using docp at 3600mhz

this is my score with -30 all core CO with 1.1v. with docp 3600mhz. Absolutely abysmal result. Screenshot almost immediately after finished. Apologies for hwinfo not being exact bang on for expected cinebench run. This result is bios settings everything on auto, apart from the docp ram mentioned earlier and having 1.1v forced cpu voltage. I had similar temps to yourself. 60-65 degrees.

I didn’t force any voltage, just -25 CO with an air cooler. If you are running at stock there is no shame in that.

I have iterated again. I was looking thru all the spare parts of the range hood bits and pieces & whadduya know I found a short piece of tubing the exact bloody length I need. What are the chances! Will post temps of idle temps and a few games shortly.

All games are at 1440p, motion blur disabled & dlss/fsr disabled, vsync is turned on - they are singleplayer games. God of War has all settings to ultra, Halo is much the same. RDR2 has most settings put to ultra, apart from water refraction/reflection & MSAA at x4. My temps for gaming are fantastic.

Cinebench is an unrealistic workload for the 5800X3D & should not really be considered a valid point of critique or something that can be interpreted as lack of performance or cooling - unless your thermal throttling. Regardless wether your running stock with all the usual settings alot of 5800X3D owners know to turn on & off or wether your OC'ing.

I gave up "overclocking" my 5800X3D as it was annoying & frustrating. I do not care for results comparing mine with an "overclocked" 5800X3D as it is primarily based on silicon lottery, compatibility of parts and your hardware combination. Each users experience trying is different and never the same.

Pics edited in photos app, why there is the weird black bars top &  bottom - I wasn't aware the windows key+prtsc would screen shot all my monitors - had to crop other screens out for privacy 😂.

There is no need to. The differences in performance that current competitive air coolers offer to the nhu12a are anywhere from 1-2-4 degrees within range & not worth considering. I understand the current air coolers out there that give the nhu12a a challenge are alot cheaper & very much worth it for what they offer. I'm not going to switch, unless improvement with a competive air cooler is an absolute garantee & not tit for tat marginal improvements within 5 degrees. I would love any links or vids about this. I am open to change, honestly.

There is also size to consider. The nhu12a just fits in my case, (Lian Li Mesh 2) a cm or so of room left between it and glass panel. The nhd15 was out of the question. I could also get better temps with better thermal paste aswell, this boils down more to I just cbf, thermal paste is barely over a year old. My jank a/c setup gives me all the cooling I could want. Why bother putting in anymore effort 😂. I have achieved these results with a level of jank, effort and cheapness even i'm surprised with. Which should give you an indication of my motivations here lol.

I disagree. There are plenty of applications out there that will allow the CPU to generate much more heat. R23 is nothing, a joke. Not even a challenge. U12 is junk nowadays, that is why you cannot compete, even with the aid of cold air and ducts.

And with all of that, not one of your cores was able to achieve max boost.

If i had a bigger case, i would probably consider a bigger air cooler, unless there are better air coolers with the same height as the nhu12a? Money is very tight for myself atm, so I'm not even considering modifying anything about my build. This is a showcase of - look what i can do with what i have - not look what i can do, lets make it better.

I have no desire nor motivation to modify my pc in its current state unless i am forced to ie: something dies. I spent many weeks messing around with the 5800X3D when i first got it to see what i could do with it. My conclusion was it simply wasn't worth it.

One other thing to note: All games i have shown. I am running off my unraid server. No vm, no trickery bs. Just str8 up using an unraid disk share folder as a steam library install location with a 2.5g LAN connection. No lag, no stuttering, no shitty load times, works flawlessly. Pic provided.

I do this stuff because i can & to see what's possible. How i go about things often doesn't make sense to others.

Got a pic of my 5800X3D locked to 1.21v on a cinebench run. This is the point at which my 5800X3D runs best with my current setup. 4450mhz all day. I do not care for reaching 4550mhz - During my testing my best-case scenario had it at a base clock of 3700mhz with a max clock of 4584mhz - kinda/sorta/but not really stable. Best i could get it ever.

Just for fun i also have a pic here downloading from my lancache at 2.5g.

Looooooooooool. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it? Thats a great idea. Wish I'd thought of it pre-mod. I'd see temps over 60 with most graphically intensive games, Halo I'd get about 55-57. I'm not about to undo my setup for the sake of number collecting lol. Cinebench r23 I'd get about 78-79-80.

Maybe there'll be a commercially-available thing in the future though. Perhaps a folding accordion-style thing that looks sleek and which you can cut to variable lengths? That would be pretty cool.

I found such a thing 😝. The rgb i have makes it look pretty atleast haha

I'll see if I can find old screenshots of temps & performance for comparison. If I do, the dates & times as well as temps & evidence will probs not be consistent lol. It'll just be an "at face value" in general look of what temps were like before my current setup.

@Blue4130 This is a pic of early 2023...i think? might be 2022? These are temps of RDR2 with an A/C room temp of 18 degrees. The AIO pump sensor was being used for a pwm fan hub not an actual AIO. The gpu mhz clocks can be ignored, the reason why i took these pics was for that very reason. HWINFO bugged out and was displaying completely wrong gpu clock info. Was never able to replicate the issue.

This pic is directly related to pic above showing idle temps with normal A/C.

This pic was also taken early 2023? With normal A/C room temp of 18 degrees with my 5800X3D locked at 1.193v with a -1000mv to cpu telemetry reporting setting.

Unfortunately, this is all i could remember from all the pics i have. I do have other pics but am completely unable to explain the context behind them.

I hate iPPC fans if I am honest.

I forgot to reply to this - am genuinely curious. What is it you don't like about iPPC? is it a broader dislike in regard to the type of fan Noctua decided to go with for these particular fans, the nf-f12 3000rpm fans. Or you just don't like this fan for a particular reason? Genuinely asking here, not having a dig or being malicious. Would like your opinion on why.

I bought these fans under the pretence of high performance, long lasting, awesome as hell. They can be noisy. Not with how I have set things up. Even with gaming, especially now I barely notice them. All i hear is a very almost barely audible hum at idle, even less now one of the fans is covered by a tube lol. Gaming or watching youtube vids i don't even notice the noise, even less now with my lower temps. I am an over ear 24/7 headphones user in my house and i do mean...almost always. Cooking, cleaning, lounging around watching tv. Headphones all day baby. When i'm gaming or watching utube i don't hear anything else.

I hate speakers, being single owning your own home has its benefits lol. I have the Sennheiser GSP 670's. Self-repaired, replaced the batteries, duct taped to the moon and back. These Headphones are pretty good.

The fans are excellent if you need to move a large amount of air. But they are not a quiet fan.. you know this already though.  I sit 8 or 9 feet from my tower, and if I have it loaded with iPPC fans, I can hear them upstairs on the main floor when they are running at full speed, no problem. If you like those fans, you should try a good 120x38.
