Inoperable PCIe port

BLUF: what are the odds that water damaged the internal CPU PCIe lanes vs the mobo PCIe traces/socket. Should I just buy a new mobo or do more testing to find failed component?

 

Cat knocked my tea across my desk, which drained into my top exhausting PC.

 

Immediately unplugged, not fast enough to prevent the blue screen and shut down though. 

 

Disassembled down to individual components, bare dies and all. Washed with more than a liter of technical isopropyl, hit with low psig air from compressor, left in front of a fan for 48 hours. 

 

New thermal paste, re assembled to a test bench config, tested. Won't boot, debug LEDs run the cycle, boot looping it seems, no display.

 

Swap to an old Nvidia quadro- no boot

Back to 7900xtx on only other x16 physical spot - boot to windows after 2 loops. Everything seems to be working, but the functioning x16 physical port is equivalent to gen4 x1, so that just won't do.

 

More parts swapping, find out the main PCIe port doesn't allow the PC to boot if anything is plugged in to it. 

 

Question is, should I see if a local PC shop in town will let me test my CPU/mobo with their AM4 test bench or parts bin if they can? OR is it almost certainly the motherboard itself and I should just replace it?

Have you tried without your CPU cooler and see if it posts in the primary slot?

I can't say that I tried that. Would you mind explaining what removing the cooler does?

Removes pressure from CPU socket, too much CPU socket pressure can cause problems like these.

Mmm I see. I didn't run it cooler free, but my initial attempts did have the aio loosely attached just to try and get into the bios
