Rumors have been running wild about new Valve hardware, and they’ve finally let us in on the secret. A new VR headset? Nope. Steam Deck 2? Not quite...but we still love it!

Thanks dbrand for sending over their Killswitch case and accessories to try on the Steam Deck OLED. Grab yours at https://dbrand.com/shop/killswitch

Definitely not switching from LCD one I've got but this is a stellar update for any new buyer.

I personally want to try OC the DRAM on mine to 6400MT/s as its possible... With the possible risk of creating a paper weight.

They better put VRR display on SD2 though.

Have to say, I'm tempted to get one. Is it worth going for more storage?

3:37 The Switch OLED is a 720P screen, whereas the Steam Deck OLED is 800P, so they are definitely not the same exact display.

Depends on how many games you like to keep installed or how big games you play.

I haven't found 512GB to be limiting for my use case but I tend to play mostly older games and Indie games.

Big AAA and demanding games I'll play on my PC.

Thanks, that's a good point. I don't really expect to be playing AAA games on it. I was thinking along the lines of older or more indie style games. So the smaller version should be fine.

The screenshot of the store page linked above says 1280 x 800 for all models (and well, one is an OLED, so I would hope they're not the same display 😛)

🤦‍♂️ doh… dyslexia. You're talking about the Switch

We don't say that they're the exact same display, but we suggest that they have the same supplier due to the subpixel layout.

New model and it's still not officially available in Australia. I'd be interested if they offered a trade in program or parts for an upgrade.

Main PC CPU: 7700K, MOBO: Asus Strix, GPU: Aorus Extreme 3080, PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 750, RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB Storage: 970 Evo 1tb

"all without raising the price. take that sony."

"it's $20 more than last gen"

seems kind of silly to throw some shade at sony at the beginning, doesn't it?

<big ass images that have no right to be displayed inline>

You're looking at a new discounted price for the 512 GB LCD model. The 512 GB OLED model is the same price the 512 GB LCD was before, only the LCD one is discounted right now.

wait, why is it "very nice" that the screws on the back are now torx instead of philips?

Because they're more durable, I suppose.

Yeah, I did not understand the comparison to Sony too.

If anything, they should've thrown shade at Nintendo for the lazy Switch OLED upgrade. And that too in terms of features for a refresh version of the devices, not for the money they charge.

Its amazing how Valve is contributing to the Linux ecosystem growth through the steam deck, I was of the belief that linux still struggle with hdr and variable refresh rate and them implementing it smoothly is a big win.
