Budget upgrade ideas?

Go to solution Solved by Tetras,

It's hard to give you advice because it depends a lot on the game.

For some games your CPU is too slow, but for other games 1440p is asking too much of the 3070.

Am looking for medium settings on avg on games like starefiled and tarkov

For Starfield specifically, you can see from HUB's benchmarks * that it is both, since neither your CPU or graphics card could hold 60 fps.

It also doesn't matter which is the problem, because while you may afford a 5800X3D, you can't get a new GPU for your budget.

Hello I've recently noticed that my games are getting more demanding with updates or not even able to run modern titles with low and dlss ( even then struggling 60+ ) , I've done a bit of research on bottle necking and optimaztions , I have been able to optimize my windows for performance but it's still delaying the fact that I struggle to run new games .  I have also noticed a lot of instability in new games ( ik everyone is complaing about it ) but I've heard a upgrade can help with that .

Specs -

CPU - 7 2700x

Ram - 16 gb gskill Trident z neo 3600 cl 16 ( only running 3000 at cl14 )

Motherboard - gigabyte x570 gaming x (rev 1.0)

GPU - Nvidia 3070 founders

Running 1440p at 144 hz

-

Am looking for medium settings on avg on games like starefiled and tarkov

My budget is 300€ but can give a bit of extra if it is worth it

I would be also able to resell old parts .

Any help would be appreciated. Thx

Even a 5600 will outperform that 2700x for only $130 or so.

5800x3d to max the slot for much more as you saw.

I've checked the prices on the 5800x3d already with shipping cost and all would easily be 350

Look on the used market

a used 5600(x) should be 80-100$ and will also be a significant upgrade

5800X3D is absolutely worth the investment. Give your AM4 the final sendoff it deserves. You need to set XMP on your memory. It's fast and Ryzen needs 3200MHz minimum.

If you can't afford a new one, get a used 5700x, should be plenty on the market.

If you don't play cpu heavy titles like cities skylines (and other sim / strategy games), 5600x is also okay.
The jump from ryzen 2700x to 5600x is huge.

Well yea of course 3600MHz isn't gonna run on a 2700X cause a 2700X doesn't support 3600MHz, it tops out at 3200MHz. 3600MHz speeds only became stable for Ryzen 3000 and up. Also Zen and Zen+ is very picky on the RAM it likes unlike 3000 series and up where almost any RAM from any brand will work just fine.

If you go with the 5800X3D ram speeds won't matter as much because of that 3d cache. That said 3600mhz on 5800X3D runs just fine, so you can get another kit. Just make sure its the same kit and you have to set timings manually, but just set the primary timings eg. 16-19-19-19-39 and dram voltage 1.35v, motherboard will do the rest. You can of course tweak it if you want to. If you just want plug and play get a 3200mhz/3600mhz kit with 2x16gb sticks.

Edit: If you want to save money you could go for the 5700X instead

Update : I can roughly sell my 2700x for 70€ but the cheapest 5800x3d (used) is 330 from ebay , and the 5600x is 160€ , is there any option I can do in-between because I have to invest into a better SSD because my drive is starting to fail .  I settled on the sn770 which is 70€

You don't need a 58X3D. A 5600X would smack the shit out of your 2700X.
