Worth upgrading from 6900XT to 4070TI?

Xa3phod

If I sold my 6900XT, I can probably get $500 for it and a new 4070TI is around $769. So, is it worth $269 to upgrade to the 4070TI? Or do I need to move to the 4080 to really see the difference? Or wait for the 5000 series?

Yes. The 4070 Ti is only slightly faster than the 6900 XT, especially if you overclock it. In RT performance, the 4070 Ti is a bit faster, but for rasterized performance like most games are it's just not really an upgrade.

You 'could' get a 7900 xt but it's the same price as the 4070 ti and not much better

I say get the 6950 xt

Why? Just unlock the power limit of the 6900 XT they currently have and you have a 6950 XT.

He already  has the 6900XT 🙂

I'd say wait a generation.  Unless you're moving to 4K, there is no reason to move on from the 6900XT yet.

Even at 4K the 6900 XT is fully livable. Waiting a generation is going to be the best call either way unless you score a deal on a 7900 XTX or a 4080/4090.

I play at 1440p, not 4K. Just too old to want to deal with stutter or low fps. I just want to have the best experience. If the 6900XT is enough for now, I'll stay with it. Maybe I'll OC it. Thanks.

its more than enough. buying a 4070ti is a waste of money. especially now that afmf is a thing. Just go download the preview driver and voila frame gen in all dx11/dx12 games. also play at 1440p and i personally havent noticed any issue with quality while just normal gaming.

If you really want
DLSS, DLAA, Frame Generation, NVENC, AV1 encoding, nice RT performance? I would understand your choice, but... it's still a hefty price to pay for not much raw rasterization benefit. I would say you'd need to move to the 4080 or 4090 to see a real difference, but that is probably too much of an expense?

I assume high refresh rate? What stutter and low FPS are you referring to? What's the rest of your system look like? In terms of if the 6900XT is enough for now, I'd probably look at a 5000 series card which probably will be out next year if anything (my guessing)

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
