Why is my ssd so slow?

Also to add onto the point:
low system RAM + a SATA SSD without its own DRAM and with QLC NAND is a formula for the drive getting worn out. 

Is 16 gb low? I thought it was average.

from M.2 NVMe one's, depends where you buy, and good ones are usually cheaper then good SATA SSD.

first we would have to figure out if your mobo have even place to put one, the if it boot to NVMe, and then a pain for cloning if you are now on MBR.

 

buying good SATA one, will be easier, as that HP 802F isn't helping much.

Currently dont have a pic of it available but I do remember seeing an m.2 slot, and isn't an m.2 and nvme the same thing? Not too sure about that. The link is kinda bugged too, heres my z-validator if it helps.

The manual for HP Z240 Workstation do say there’s a M.2 PCIe 3.0 x 4 there, but it’s in weird spot on the diagram, right off the sata ports. So I wonder if it’s normal M.2 port, or some weird thing, like the vertical  one.

Do you have HP Z240, try to do a pic of that M.2 port

Ye, the z240 is my pc with some upgrades on it, and I would try to get a pic of it some time soon but can't rn. Last time I saw, if i had to install an m.2 it would have been screwed ONTO the case itself, so kinda crazy imo but yeah.

Yes this is exactly what I saw on some pictures I found in internet, it go outside of mobo ( no screw, and standoff on mobo ) and it’s inverted… it’s so weird

 

Do measure if it’s standard 80mm from the M.2 socket to screw, so we know standard M.2 SSD 2280 NVMe will fit.

 

the fact it’s inverted is rather strange, as there will be a problem with cooling it…

Wdym it's inverted? And no lol, never measured it so I would have to do it sometime soon.

that is just a guess, it can be actually in normal orientation, didn't saw good enough photo of the pins inside M.2 socket to tell 100%.
 

so do a sharp photo of the pins inside the M.2 socket, just so I can be sure how it’s oriented, and one from little further away, so I know the position of the M.2 to the mobo.

 

do it when you measure if its 8 cm from the M.2 socket to standoff ( or maybe there are multiple mounting posts ).

M.2 isnt inverted just rotated 180 degrees from what i can see here, make sure the case comes with a long enough standoff however, it looks to possibly be at a slight angle here

Try this one instead, twice as fast and a reputable brand, theres testing that shows some of the crappier brands dont do what they say on the tin, some drives advertised for say 6000read/5000 write as an example were only getting around 5000read and 300write. 

 

That WD sn570 will do as advertised or 95% of it at least, and should be within your stated budget

the price went from 39$ to 49$ for that SN580 1TB, it was good deal, but not anymore. 

there was also SN570 1TB for 42$ but not available anymore, only that linked 500GB version for 38$, and that is not good deal.

 

the second one sabrent is only 500GB for 40$, so not good deal overall. ( it’s better then that SN570 500GB for 38$ )

The sabrent is one of the best quality NVMes and it should come with Acronis to boot, a software you can use to clone your OS from one drive to another, id recommend the sabrent or the Crucial, both very good drives.

 

However its not great value as its expensive for the speed and capacity compared to some other drives
