Ryzen 9 5900X odd cooling behaviour, would like some input.

Sorry, I didn't look at which has the pins... no time. Bent pins can cause short circuits, heat and faults like BSOD... same with RAM.聽

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 馃槈 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

None of which would make the CPU harder to cool.

Even though they seemed to be a bit confused about which cooler they actually used ._.

A stock 5900X is super easy to cool. I can cool mine just fine with no fans on my cooler with a 180w PPT load from Linpack Xtreme.. and you are just trying to run yours at stock if I am not mistaken? Stock is like 142/90/140 and I run mine at 245/165/190. With a 10GB load in Linpack Xtreme, my 5900X runs at ~4550MHz for ~518-520 GFlops. In those conditions it is pushing the full 245/165/190. Under light loads a few cores hit 5150, a few hit 5000, and the rest hover in the 4950-4850 range.

With my 5900X and FC140 I use Noctua NF-A14 3K iPPC in the center, and a T30 up front.

I would say the cooler is slightly underwheling for the cpu wattage

Noctua say 167watts is the cooling capacity of the U14s and tech powerup says the chip can pull between 181 - 350 watts on stress tests with no OC

I dont understand Noctuas NSPR rating but the cooler is one of their top performing ones so im probably wrong

That is not whattage, that is just some numbers (162 not 167) to compare to other noctua coolers higher = better cooling, lower worse cooler (like only usable for something no higher than a ryzen 7 5700x)

Wattage is a poor indicator of heat. Degrees C/watt would be much better.聽
