Apple Fixed the Problem they Created.

The lightning cable is DEAD. Thanks to the European Union, Apple has to swap standards to what the rest of the world has been using for years. But if you want the full BENEFIT of USB-C, you might need to shell out some big bucks for the iPhone 15 Pro…

It was to be expected that they uses USB 2.0 charging for the cheaper Iphones.

Also Charging speed has nothing to do with the usb standard.

I have charging cables, that have a usb 2.0 data-transfer speed. but still 100W charging.

-----

A thing I expect apple to pull is downclock the Iphone cables speed so it can only support up to 30W. not 100W+ so you can also use it for their macbooks.

This is the sole reason I only buy USB-C to C cables that are rated for 100W or higher.

Thanks Apple, for your continuous green movement and not including plastic on the packaging box. Yeah a big approval from "Mother nature"

And 300 suppliers* commit on green energy

Now, let's see how the iPhone 15 Pro runs game with Ray Tracing on next LTT video

*Probably refers to vendors outside of factory manufacturing

Supplier definition is quite broad, they could means food catering, water, office cleaning service, etc for the USA office and sales store

Apple obviously have no control whatsoever for manufacturing power source in China, from assembling, chip manufacturing, lithium battery manufacturing, which as far as I know, most electric power source in China comes from Nuclear and Coal

So . . . it's a greener earth and a big win!**

I likely have the wrong thread, please forgive me, but the Ugreen into sponsor spot stated a 300 Watt GaN charger, when I believe it's actually 200 Watt.

I will delete/[re]move, once I'm either acknowledged as a helper,

OR,

Fake news encouraging boob, cause 300 watt is a thing, and I can't internet good!

Just a reminder to Linus: When you have to back up your phone to your computer, you will be reminded of its painfully slow USB 2.0 speeds. Please mention this in the future so that it isn't only considered needed for photographers and the like.

Please use the mark as solution feature if your query was resolved.

Mac Address doesn't do as much of a traditional recap/spec explanation of events and for the last two iPhone presentations instead does a vibe check on if people are excited, what for and such.

I disagree that lightning was bad. It’s easy to forget how many phones at the time of the iPhone 5 had micro usb type b. The absolute worst connector.

It was time for lightening to go, no question. But we were promised 10 years of it from Apple during the iPhone 5 announcement and we got a good 10 years out of it.

I salute lightning on its way out the door. 🫡

Funny how you call it a problem, but all the suckers spent $30+ on their premium Apple cables.  They LOVE they have a proprietary cable so they can be move different and unique.

So Apple fanboys love to humble brag about how  much  they have to spend on their Apple fetish.

I think this might just be unique to where you live. Where I live, in Germany, a 4 pack of lightening cables is 13€. Where my brother lives, in Canada, a 4 pack is $19. In Spain, where my grand parents live, a 4 pack is 12€.

Given the relative income, it's fair to say that Spanish iPhone buyers are getting a raw deal compared to German or Canadian ones. But in the countries where iPhones are popular, lightening cables aren't really more expensive than other cables.

Sure, they're first party cable is pricey. But so is their polishing cloth. It's a bit of leap from there to "iPhone buyers like lightening cables and polishing cloths because they're expensive".

Transfer speeds over cable is moot. Unless you're using your iphone as a 4k 60fps camera for live streaming or some sort, transferring files over WiFi would still be faster than plugging device A to B.

Android has it even worse, it doesn't really matter what version of USB you have, it all communicates using MTP, a notoriously slow protocol. The solution I've found was to use FTP(S) over WiFi, using an app that hosts a server on your phone. It's so convenient to manage my media library and backing up photos is literally simpler than even Google Photos. I've previously discussed about it below:

If you found my answer to your post helpful, be sure to react or mark it as solution 😄

Thought I would post in here after Linus comment on the wan show. He mentioned that after doing some research he thinks it’s because the A16 bionic doesn’t support faster than usb 2 speeds but once again research seems to be lacking the latest iPad mini (6th gen) uses the A15 Bionic and has usb type C at usb3 gen 1 speeds (5GB/s) so they could have done that on the iPhone 15 but decided to.

Another note is about making two different models they already do a USA only model as they only do eSIM in the US, but physical sim outside of Europe, granted it’s not as big as a different port.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I could have sworn I saw something (googled it, can't find it) saying that if you want fast charging on the new iphones that support it, there's a $100+ cable you need to buy.

From what I've seen it's the faster transfer speed on the pro as the cable provided is only usb 2 speed and the only other cable apple sell is a $100 thunderbolt cable.
