How do I go about updating my GPU driver when my PC crashes after being on for only a minute.

Bean Cooling

I can't seem to boot I to safe mode, and my system will crash about a minute after it turns on, how do I fix my GPU drivers in this scenario?

Well if it crashes in safe mode then i doubt its GPU Driver problem

If this was me, I would probably go for a fresh install of Windows first. If you can get Windows installed, then at least you'll know its a software issue and not a broken GPU.

Of course, if you have files that aren't backed up then this might be a problem but reinstalling Windows is generally one of my first port of calls.

The GPU doesn't crash in safe mode, my system for whatever reason can't boot into safe mode, it just starts up normally.

Can you do a 'fresh install'?

If you don't have any files that aren't backed up on the cloud then I tend not to ever recommend and upgrade.

deleting everything and starting fresh is the only way to rule out a software / windows issue

Download DDU https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/Display-Driver-Uninstaller-DDU-V18067-Released

Run and when opening the program the first time you'll get prompted to start in safe mode. In options (of DDU) disable windows automatic driver installation from windows update:

Well, I do have files that aren't backed up, so I thought an in-place could do the job.

I'll have to try that out after the in-place upgrade, my system only stays on for about a minute before getting a BSOD and visual artifacts.

Ok, then it might not be possible, you can boot in safe mode and open the program after too if you want to.

How are you trying to get into Safe Mode? What kind of error do you get when it crashes? What graphics card are you using?

What happens after that? You should get a list of options at some point then, yeah?

No it just restarts normally, regardless the in-place upgrade seems to be going along fine, my system isn't crashing.

Do you remember the error you were getting?

Not entirely, but there was visual artifacts, and I was getting some and driver problems, and my system runs fine if I run into the recovery menu, and the windows boot media menu.

I just tried to update my driver's again, got to 100% then bsod with visual artifacts. System restarted in a surprisingly short period of time, things seem to be running smoothly now. Aaaand it died as I was typing this. DDU time.

Ran DDU, system BSOD'd, but without visual artifacts, said it was a WHEA error. Should I try running DDU again?

EDIT: nvm display drivers are very clearly gone, installing new ones now

Are the files that need backed up on the boot drive?
