I have a Radeon 7870 with 2 mini-display ports, hdmi, and dvi. I cannot for the life of me get 4 monitors working on it (or even 3 for that matter). I have 2x 1600x900 monitors, a 1920x1080 monitor, and a 720p tv. The monitors all have dvi so i used 2 dvi to mini-display port adapters on the 1600x900 monitors to hook them up.

I can get 2 monitors working fine (1 dvi and 1 dvi to mini-display port monitor). Whenever I try to add the 3rd monitor or tv, nothing seems to work right. It computer usually sees it. However, it usually is at a strange resolution, or can't even be enabled at all.

Any help or troubleshooting steps would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Each adaptor individually works fine.

hmmm not sure you arent trying to use them in eyefinity correct? if not then it should just work as far as I know. Maybe someone else will know, Because im not sure.

Ill keep watching this topic though, im interested to see if you can solve it.

I don't think its an AMD CCC or eyefinity issue. I can't even get it to display anything without trying to use eyefinity.

I had a similar problem with my 6790 (I know it's older but it's the same problem).

I don't think you'll be able to use 4 monitors with this card, 3 is the maximum I believe.

You have to have a connection to one of each of the outputs on the card, soo 1 into the HDMI, 1 to the DVI and 1 to the mini display port.

2 monitors will work in any combination but 3 monitors have to have a dedicated output.

***EDIT***

If you use a converter on your mini Display-Port then it will have to be an active converter, your PC will pick up a connection if a Passive adapter is used but wont transfer the signal from card to monitor in the 3 monitor setup.

After checking what i've said, I think you'll have to use at least one mini DP to have 3 monitors.

Going from card to monitor I have

DVI to DVI

HDMI to HDMI-DVI conversion on monitor

Mini Display Port-DVI ACTIVE conversion to DVI

Thanks for the help, all!

Okay, so if I get an active converter for the DVI to mini-display port, then it should work?

I do have a 2nd card (5770). Can I stick this in my machine and use the inputs on that?

So as you can see in the photo I've taken, if you have it like that then in theory it should work.

I'm from the UK so I bought mine from a UK store, but this looks like the one I have in the photo and is an Active adapter.

Seems this person had the same problem too  :)

I've never had an experience with a second card so I wouldn't know. Sorry :)
