Stick with 5900x, upgrade to 5800x3d, or whole hog AM5 7800x3d

Hi,

I have just purchased a 7900XTX which arrives tomorrow.

I mainly play call of duty warzone and with the recent dips in FPS, have purchased RX 7900 XTX TUF gaming.

Would it also be worth upgrading the CPU to 5800x3d to get some more frames, or even a no frills 7800x3d (guessing I would need a new mobo, ram, cooler), but not sure what this would cost as the UK is pretty expensive for parts.

Play 1440p "competitive" settings, and trying to get back to over 200fps like I use to. The machine is also dual booted, but just runs a few VMs now and again for learning.

Thanks.

IMVHO: neither.

Take your time to get a grip on your new GPU, before considering buy more/newer hardware.

7900 XTX also could run out of steam your PSU, so... take your time.

Not English-speaking person, sorry, I'll make mistakes. If you're kind, maybe you'll be able to understand.

If you're really kind, you'll nicely point that out so I will learn more about write in good English.  🙂

Stick it. You already own it, and besides cached strained titles you wont see massive improvement on averages, just 1% and .1% lows. If you are super sensitive to stutter then maybe, but for most, they wont feel it.

@freeagent Sorry for the ping, but if you want you can go and speak in support of 5900X here.

For games I prefer my tuned 5900X over my tuned 58X3D. I play at 4K/60.

I will probably upgrade my kid from my old 5600X to my 58X3D.

5800x3D is really only a great option for those on 2000/3000 series, if you are already on 5000 series its more of a sidegrade in quite a lot of games which benefit from it, and some that may not.

I would honestly wait until its really not able to do what you ask of it.

Thank you all for the replies.

I will do some more looking into squeezing more out of my current setup.

imo, nah, not worth it, you upgrade way too often for my tastes - but if money is of no concern,  then why not???

also have the lingering feeling its maybe not your hardware.... too much tinkering can lower performance too. (dual boot, eh, uh-oh...)

Warzone just keeps dropping frames from season to season.

What do you mean with regards to the dual booting?

One drive with an optimised OS version for gaming, then another drive with a day to day OS. I wouldn't of thought these would interfere with each other.

Thanks

im the opposite,  i cannot see how it doesn't impact anything,  windows *hates* dual booting....but you can just try that out? what stops you from removing the second drive and any associated "bootloaders"?

My target is over 200fps, as that was what I was getting at the start of warzone 2, but then there was a massive FPS drop about about 2 season ago, which affected a lot of PC players.

I can pop out the sabrent drive and give it a go.

I am guessing there is not a huge benefit to a "stripped" down windows 10 build with only the basic of apps/features installed as default?

At this moment in time, I have no plans to go to 4k, and do not like UW.

no, and it often does impact performance negative because there are important components missing,  which, incidentally often leads to stutters.

im not saying that's the reason but its possible and generally "optimized" windows / os is not beneficial (usually the opposite)
