Best replacement Joycons?

CrowTheRobot

If I should've just searched for this in the first place, apologies.  I was hoping a new post would get potentially the most up-to-date recommendations.

At the end of August, I'm going with my wife and six year old on a Disney Cruise to Alaska.  Not really worried about keeping occupied on the boat, but we have a decent amount of travel on the way to Vancouver, and on the way home we have a red-eye out of Vancouver and I don't trust my ability to sleep on planes.  My wife will probably stay occupied by her phone/any media options there may be on the flight, and my kid will be fine with an iPad full of pre-downloaded Disney movies, but I'm planning to bring my Switch.  My Switch has intermittent Joycon drift, but when I'm at home I tend to use a third party Pro controller so I'm not all that worried about it.  However, on the flights I want a decent, relatively frustration-free experience (especially on the off chance my wife gets bored enough to want to co-op something).  I know there are kits to replace the joysticks at home and I'm willing to look into those after the trip (as I will also be going into a less busy season at work and will have more time at home to do such work) but in the short term I'd just like to get a decent extra set to bring and have some Amazon credits to burn.  What's the most recommended set out there, first vs third party?

Nintendo will repair for free and cover shipping both directions if you call them and ask nicely.

However, it might arrive after you leave.

Other options is that you buy refurbished joycons from Nintendo online store (their website), or you replace the part yourself.

Nintendo refurbished hardware is pretty much new without the nice box. Nintendo is very good with their refurbishement department. Most of the time you won't even have a visible scratch on the part. I had great experience with them, and help saved some money that way.

If you just plan on using them attached to the Switch, the Hori Split Pad Pro or Split Pad Compact. I have the Pro. I typically only use mine docked, but if I take it anywhere with me, I use the Split Pad Pro. It increases the size a fair bit, but that's actually why I got it. Standard joycons absolutely destroy my hands when used attached to the Switch. The Split Pad Pro is like having a full size controller attached. The only down sides are, you lose rumble and they only work attached.

I'm personally a fan of Nyxi branded joycons (and controllers) due to the ergonomics being better than the 1st party ones. I have read online that their quality control isn't the best, but I've had no issues with the three different products of theirs that I've tried. Some of their products also offer hall effect sticks, which is a good bonus.

Worth nothing, Nyxi is a company that rebrands products, so you can find similar if not identical products from Echtpower and Binbok; they all seem to source the same controllers.
