New Build from Current Parts and My Many Other Bad Decisions

Budget (including currency): $500-$700

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AAA FPS Games like COD, Games with a lot of graphic overhaul options via modding (Skyrim SE for example), and countless others I would consider 'AA' games, like Chivalry 2, Simulation Games, Older CODs, etc...

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Here is what I currently have: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZsL3zf , yes, my case is from 2015, and unfortunately was the only case out of 3 from around that time period I had laying around with everything still intact. When I built this in 2021 everything was way more expensive so I had to settle for the free option of using this janky Corsair artifact. The airflow of this case, and my lack of care about which screws from which of my 3 defunct cases I should use and where they should go, are what I believe are the main problems. My cooler I know is also very dingy, and when I upgraded from the stock heatsink (yes I know, I ran stock cooling for about 6 months with this build) to the aftermarket heatsink, my computer wouldn't post until I reseated the CPU about 4 times (about a year later and still have no idea what that was about). My plan was to maybe 'split' this computer and go intel, keep the GPU, RAM, and Storage for a new system and load up the 'old' (my current one) with parts I dont use anymore for maybe just a spare. I guess my main questions are: What mistakes am I making with this setup?, What should I transfer over into a new rig?, and What CPU, Mobo, etc.. I should get for the new build. The budget isn't definite, but I wouldn't pay over $200 for a MOBO, over $300 for a CPU, etc... As you can see I have about a 50% of destroying something. My hopes was for Intel I wouldn't have to worry so much about bending those darn pins (at least not the ones on the CPU lol). To this day I still think theres something 'off' about my CPU but I don't get into diagnostics very much. Right now it runs newer games at medium settings fine, and technically can do higher even max on some games, but my PC will start heating up my whole room. Oh, and water-cooling is not my jive, I'll have my PC swimming in a matter of seconds if I fool around with it.

I still don't understand why you need a new pc/ugprade

The worst offender in your setup is actually that garbage the 3060. Best case scenario to live up that system is something like this:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 3.4 GHz 8-Core Processor  ($323.68 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler  ($37.90 @ Amazon)
Video Card: ASRock Phantom Gaming D OC Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB Video Card  ($519.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $881.57
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

If you don't want to stretch out too far beyond $700, an RX 6750XT would drop the whole price to $721, but the performeance difference between it and the 6800XT is just huge. It still will kick the snot out of the 3060 though.

As for your CPU - it's more of an APU than CPU, that's 5700G is not the same as 5700/5700X. It has its L3 cache halved to fit in a GPU, so that's why it's so much slower. On AM4 stuff doesn't get better than 5800X3D, for which i can't say a bad word for almost the year and a half that i have it for. If you don't wanna spend too much though, a regular 5800X/5700X will also MASSIVELY improve the experience, while still allowing for a 6800XT to fit in. That 3060 in there really is atrocious, especially for the price you paid for it while it was "relevant".

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor  ($225.00 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler  ($37.90 @ Amazon)
Video Card: ASRock Phantom Gaming D OC Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB Video Card  ($519.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $782.89

Here you can see how big is the difference between the 6750XT and the 6800XT:

And here you can see how bad the 3060 12GB actually is when compared to not only the 6750XT, but slower GPUs as well:

Everything else in you system looks fine. The NVMe drive isn't bad, the mobo is excellent, the PSU is spot on. It's just that you combined a weak APU, not a CPU with a waste of sand GPU, but this was the choice up until half a year ago, if you didn't have a massive budget. Not really your fault, just crappy market.

Right now you are probably wondering if the 5800X3D is worth the extra $100 over the regular 5800X and from my own experience with it for 18 months or so, i'd say "YES!!! It's more than worth the price jump.". Very few products are SO GOOD, that they keep basically their MSRP from launch throughout their entire market life. This is one of those products.

Any suggestion for a case?

Depending on the budget i'd chose either Phanteks Eclipse G360A or Phanteks Eclipse G300A (1 Fan). Both are extremely well flowing cases and it only depends if you want to buy the fans on your own later or have more included ones now. The included Phantecs fans aren't bad, but Arctic's P12s and P14s are better.

If you want something pre packed you can get Montech Air 903 Max, or Fractal Design Pop Air at that similar price range too. Too bad that G300A 3 fan option isnt available stateside at reasonable price, but in EU and UK theyre the best option besides the archaic Forge 100M by MSI.

I try to steer away from Montech, because their cases look good on the photos, but when you actually touch and feel them... well you understand why they are so cheap. The metal is very thin, the plastic feels cheap and the whole case feels like it's from 2013, not 2023. Build quality-wise, the G300A, G360A and my personal favorite the G500A are lightyears ahead, even if the Eclipse series is their lowest tier. If budget is really tight, i actually prefer to turn to Deep Cool and their Matrexx lineup. Matrexx 50 Mesh is and excellent case so is Fractal Design Focus 2 if you have it at the right price of $55.

Just that airflow performance for the cost. Im aware theyre build like a s s. Thats why i also recommend Pop Air at the same price.
