100 mbps is to slow? @Askew

The recording above was done on a RAID-0 array at 135MB/s performance, highlighted by Dxtories built in bench.

Which UT you trying to record?

I remember recording UT3 with a Radeon 5850, and it was closer to 60FPS even with the 2500k.

See here..

Not sure if it was the GPU, or just the game being an arse with recording to be honest.

@Recon-UK So my hard drive isn't the problem. Is my computer just so shit it can't handle playing an old First person shooter made in 2006 and record or what?

@Recon-UK @ionbasa you think maybe UT has a fps limit?

I actually believe the max FPS is currently 60.

I believe that this was done in order for the video file to be properly imported into editing programs such as Sony Vegas Pro and Adobe Premire.

You were talking about getting lag when recording with the UT Video Codec, are your games running above 60fps before recording? If so you may have to force 60fps with vsync, or force 60fps max in whatever game you are playing.

If I remember correctly you can also change the frame buffer needed for screen capture in DXtory, maybe also check the write speed of your HDD. I know that when I record a 1080p video at 30FPS it maxes out my HDD write speed. maybe benchmark your recording hard drive?

You can bench mark your drive's write speed with the Blackmagic Disk Test software. You can download it from here: http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/detail?sid=3947&pid=3989&leg=false&os=win

Download the Desktop Video for Windows. In that folder should be an installer.

Once installed there will be a drive benchmark tool that you can run. Post your results, with a screenshot, to let us know if your drive is causing the bottleneck issue.

Edit: Here is a screenshot from my older laptop:

Oh. The game I play needs 140 fps or it lags. @ionbasa guess I have to use lagarith for this game.

can you maybe run it at 120. That would be 60*2, so as long as you set dxtory to record at 60fps, you can still render at 120fps.

@ionbasa run what at 120 yes the game would be playable but when recording and having the fps option set to record at 120 it still is around 60 with the UT

That is your issue. Don't record at 120fps. Just to let you know: YouTube limits videos to 30fps, regardless of screen resolution .

Set Dxtory to record at 60fps. Do you use the overlay in the top left corner by any chance? The video fps is what your game is running at and the file fps is what you are recording at.

Honestly, you didn't even reply with your HDD benchmark, I mentioned earlier that on my 7200RPM drive I max out the drive bandwidth at 1080p 30fps recording, I can't push it past 1080p30fps unless I record to my Samsung SSD.

Sounds odd, then again single HDD.

It isn't, the reason being that the UT Video Codec is basically uncompressed video, unlike an compressed codec, which require less disk bandwidth, but more processing power to encode in h264 (for example).

@ionbasa I get like 100 mbps on the drive I am recording to because the drive I play on is the one that gets 200 mbps. I have to play the game at 140 fps but when I'm recording it drops to 60 I have it set for higher but it won't go higher. I will just use Lagarith with crashes.

Don't set the recording fps above 60. maybe even try 30 fps for recording. The recording fps and the display fps will be different.

At what fps do you have Dxtory set to? And why would you need to record above 60fps?

FPS is higher locking recording at 30 fps but still not close to lagarith. I would only use UT because lagarith crashes. @ionbasa

Well, the last bit of options I can suggest is to make sure that both Dxtory and the UT VIdeo Codec is updated to the lataest versions.

You might also try looking into the HuffYUV codec if Lagarith is givving you issues. There should also be a multithreaded version of HuffYUV that was developed here: http://home.h01.itscom.net/para/intro/huffyuv-mt/

Hopefully that might prevent crashes, unlike Lagarith.
