I downloaded both but I seem to get more fps with Lagarith but I crash with it. I haven't used Ut long enough to see but I get less fps. People like here http://forum.exkode.com/index.php?topic=25.0 say UT is faster but why isn't it for me?

You have to set the number of threads under UT codec settings. It also depends which color space you are using. For best performance, I suggest 4:2:2 or 4:2:0.

so make sure you use ULY0 or ULY2.

I've been using 6 threads for Dxtory or is this not a good idea because it uses up my whole cpu? @ionbasa

That depends on what CPU you have. Personally I would set dxtory to use 4 threads. Note that you also have to set the number of threads under the UT video codec settings:

utconf.png

I would set the frame divide count to same as number of logical processors, and change the radio button to Predict Left. These are the setting I personally use.

I have an FX 6300 using 6 threads currently and it has less performance. And what do you mean radio button? Yes I set it as 6 in the Codec settings. Personally do you use UT video

Yes, I personally do use the UT Video Codec. I would set Dxtory to use 4 threads, and set the UT video codec to use 6 frame divide counts. A radio button I was referring to is under the UT video codec settings, it is the one that allows you to select "Optimize for decoding speed (Predict left)". You can see these settings in this screenshot:

utconf.png

As for why you are seeing an decrease in performance, I suggest you read how AMD handles their cpu "cores": http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2011/10/12/amd-fx-8150-review/2

It effectively comes down to the fact that each core is sharing resources with another core per module.

That would be because lagarith is single threaded. You will have to manually adjust the number of frame divides until you get decent performance. Maybe decrease it to 4 or 2. Also which colorspace are you using? ULY0 or ULY2?

I don't see where either of those are No ULY0 or ULY2 there are 2 Yuv422's and 2 Yuv420's which are like 601 and 709 variants. @ionbasa

Use the 601 variant. ULY2 is for 422s and ULY0 is for 420. Try using 422 first. then try 420. Use whichever you feel gives you the best performance, which wich should be 420.

You have the wrong hardware then, here an i5 is stronger using Lagorith, why not use shadowplay?

You mean Unreal Tournament?

Yes i believe so, there are ways to unlock it, but you need to dig into it's config files.

Lagarith produces vastly different file sizes depending on whether you capture in RGB or not, use YV12.

Not the best quality for the res at all, but file size was small, and preserved a decent quality thanks to higher res.

True, I was suggesting that it could be why his fps tanks, some mechanical hard drives cannot keep up with RGB setting in lagarith.

Switching to YV12 would highlight if the bit rate was the issue.
